Singapore, 26 April, 2010 – Media group Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is partnering MatchMove Games
(www.matchmovegames.com) to offer online games to readers of AsiaOne, Straits Times RazorTV and STOMP.
Starting today, users who click on the “Games” link from the homepages of these three SPH-owned websites will be directed to a new gaming vertical. From there, users will be able to download games as well as access browser-based free-to-play titles from MatchMove Games’ catalogue which includes hundreds of titles from popular genres, such as Action, Breakout, Match 3, and Puzzle games.
SPH’s digital media editor, Mr Felix Soh, said: “MatchMove Games provides exactly what our users have been asking for: world class games. Through this partnership, we will now be able to give our users a varied selection of excellent games and game-related content that can be enjoyed by all age groups. We are confident that such content will increase the reach of our websites and help grow our online audience.”
AsiaOne, Straits Times RazorTV and STOMP have been ranked amongst the top ten most-visited websites in Singapore by online research company, Experian Hitwise. In March 2010, there were 6 million unique visitors to AsiaOne, Straits Times RazorTV and STOMP, boosting a total of 88 million pageviews, a record high for the three websites.
Mr Shailesh Naik, Chief Executive Officer of MatchMove Games, said: “We are thrilled to be able to find a distribution partner with the stature of SPH in our home town of Singapore. As the leading national media publisher, we believe that SPH will help us maximise our reach to the local audience, 80 per cent of whom have regular access to high-speed internet. These web-savvy people are always looking for new avenues of entertainment, and we are more than happy to oblige.”
MatchMove is planning to add more new titles and features to the site, including social and massively multiplayer games, as well as community features that will encourage users to interact. It will also introduce a number of month-long challenges to encourage players to use the site's social features. Winning each challenge, such as MatchMove Games' popularity challenge, will earn users a number of rewards, which includes a brand new Apple iPad.
The value of the video games sector in Singapore has seen an exponential rise in recent years. In 2009, it was valued at $285 million compared to $87 million only three years ago, according to the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
