Singapore, 26 November 2009 --- Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is honoured with the Distinguished Patron of the Arts award for the 17th consecutive year by the National Arts Council.
The 2009 Patron of the Arts Awards were presented by RAdm (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister for Information, Communications & the Arts, this evening at the National Museum of Singapore.
The Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award is the highest honour accorded to an organisation in support of the arts. SPH's major arts sponsorships cover a spectrum of arts events such as music (SPH Gift of Music series, Jeremy Monteiro's A Jazzy Christmas), theatre (Life! Theatre Awards), dance (SPH is Silver Anniversary Sponsor of the Singapore Dance Theatre) and cultural activities (Chinese Cultural Festival).
SPH UnionWorks, a subsidiary of SPH, was also awarded the Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award for its sponsorship of Drama Box's productions including David the Best, Project Mending Sky and Drift. omy.sg, SPH's bilingual news and entertainment portal, clinched the Arts Supporter Award.
In addition, SPH Foundation received the Friend of the Arts award. Set up in 2003, SPH Foundation is also a fervent supporter of the arts, sponsoring programmes and theatre productions such as Story Challenge by The Theatre Practice, The Write Stuff by Singapore Repertory Theatre's The Little Company, David the Best by Drama Box and First Light by Toy Factory.
Ms Ginney Lim, SPH's Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and General Manager of the SPH Foundation, said: "Despite a challenging year, we stayed committed in our support of the arts. Like our wide range of media products which cater to different groups of people, our arts sponsorship, comprising music, dance, theatre and literary arts, reflects the diverse audience we reach out to."

SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 FM in Mandarin and Radio 91.3 FM in English.
In addition, SPH has ventured into outdoor advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest outdoor motion display advertising network media company.
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
