SPH to launch high-end lifestyle publication ZbBz

Singapore, 18 September 2009 --- Lianhe Zaobao, the flagship Chinese language newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), announced today the launch of ZbBz, a monthly "newsgazine" for bilingual elites as well as English educated readers who are inspired by the renaissance of oriental culture.

From October this year, ZbBz will be distributed monthly at no charge to an exclusive group of high net worth individuals drawn from SPH's subscribers database. Copies are also available at selected bookstores including Borders, Kinokuniya and PageOne at $10 a copy.

ZbBz stands for Zaobao Bao Zhi (早报报志). "Bao Zhi" refers to "newsgazine" and is a play on the Chinese words for "newspaper" and "magazine". The publication combines the intelligence of newspaper journalism with the sophistication of magazine design.

ZbBz will be packed with informative and entertaining features, from profiles of people of distinction, to luxury lifestyles covering contemporary oriental art, gourmet for the epicurean, travel for the been here done that, gadgets for the young at heart, fashion of the red carpet, alternate investments, watches not for the faint-hearted and philanthropy that celebrates life.

The readers of ZbBz are high-achievers and their partners who appreciate intelligent journalism and are hungry for knowledge. He or she is someone who appreciates the finer things in life and takes an interest in the finesse of oriental culture. Readers can choose to read a story in Chinese or English or both. The product endeavours to offer readers different reading experience in whichever language he or she chooses but each is not a repeat of another.

ZbBz will be spearheaded by Editor-in-Chief Dr Ng King Kang, who is also a senior correspondent with Lianhe Zaobao and Editor Ms Ong Ting Nee, previously the Editor of Citta Bella. They will be supported by an established team of accomplished and bilingual journalists from the Fukan (lifestyle) section of Lianhe Zaobao.

Mr Robin Hu, Senior Executive Vice President of SPH's Chinese Newspapers Division, said: "Singapore is an affluent society and Singaporeans have become increasingly discerning on how to spend their wealth wisely. In a way, ZbBz is their 'how to spend it guide'. With China's rising, many English-educated Singaporeans have rediscovered their Chinese heritage. The bilingual ZbBz is a window into this oriental world with a language that they are comfortable in."

Dr Ng King Kang, Editor-in-Chief of ZbBz added: "In ZbBz, we want to inspire readers to embrace new horizons, to make things happen, and to celebrate new ways of looking at life, through the eyes of those walking a few steps ahead."

Ms Ong Ting Nee, Editor of ZbBz, said: "We have conceptualised a new print product which combines the best of intelligent reads, based on the newspaper's brand of quality journalism, and brilliant visual packaging in the form of a glossy magazine."
