Singapore, 8 July 2009 – The current economic climate may be less than rosy, but with free content for Singaporeans – ringtones, wallpapers, and Electronic Arts games - Coca-Cola’s current advertising campaign slogan of “Open Happiness” does just that. It is a reminder to consumers that positivity and optimism is just a Coke can away.
ZapCodeTM is a digital marketing platform marketed by SPH NewMedia Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), under an agreement with ColorZip SEA Pte Ltd (the company which holds the rights to this patented technology).
From June to July 2009, ZapCodesTM will be printed on millions of cans of Coke, Coke Zero and Sprite. Consumers simply need to “Zap” the code found on these cans and within seconds, they can download Coke ringtones, wallpapers and EA games like Tetris, SIM City, FIFA 09 and Trivial Pursuit onto their mobile phones, free-of-charge.
To do this, a mobile phone user needs to download a free software developed by ColorZip known as ColorCamTM into his mobile phone. The phone is then transformed into a scanning device necessary to read the code. Almost any kind of content and not limited to text, images, videos, etc. can be linked to the code by a URL and the content is then transferred back to the phone user.
Since the launch of ZapCodeTM , close to 400 mobile phone models have been made compatible with the ColorCamTM software in Singapore. About a million phones in Singapore are now ColorCamTM enabled.
"ZapCodeTM empowers the mobile user with a new and novel form of product/brand engagement. With ZapCodeTM printed onto millions of cans of Coke, Coke Zero and Sprite, consumers at large will have easy access to this innovative technology which rewards them with a host of free ringtones, wallpapers and games. This takes consumer interactivity to a whole new level," commented Mr. Geoff Tan, Senior Vice President of SPH Marketing Division.
“This is another example of how Coca-Cola Singapore continues to connect with and excite our consumers through innovative platforms,” said James Chin, Senior Brand Manager for Coca-Cola Singapore. “Other examples of how we have been early adopters of cutting edge technology include the deployment of Bluetooth technology in bus-stop shelter panels for our Far Coast launch in 2007, and bringing free MP3 downloads to consumers using unique codes for Coke in 2005.”
