Rednano Mobile enables SMS voting in Singapore Blog Awards 2009

SMS voting offered for the 2 categories of Best Overseas Celebrity Blog and Best Local Celebrity Blog

Singapore, 29 June 2009 – Use your mobile phone to vote for your favourite celebrity blogger and you might just stand a chance to win a cool BlackBerry Storm handset. That is the offer from Rednano Mobile, the mobile platform of rednano.sg, Singapore’s local search and directory engine, to participate in the Singapore Blog Awards 2009. The Rednano SMS voting mechanism is in addition to online voting.

SPH Search, the company behind rednano.sg and Rednano Mobile, is a subsidiary of Southeast Asia’s leading media organization Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH).

Powered by Rednano Mobile, SMS voting is offered in two categories, namely Best Overseas Celebrity Blog and Best Local Celebrity Blog. These two categories had the most number of votes recorded last year when the Singapore Blog Awards was first organised. Unlike online voting where voters are limited to just one vote per category each day, they can now vote for their favourite celebrity bloggers as many times as they like via SMS. The top celebrity blogger of each of the two categories is determined by the total number of votes garnered through both online and SMS voting.

The top five celebrity bloggers with the most number of SMS votes will be featured on the Awards website and results are updated ‘live’ in real time. With this, voters can quickly vote for their favourites to move them to the top positions. Voters also stand to win the latest BlackBerry Storm mobile phone with a retail price of about S$1,000 in a lucky draw. The more times they vote, the greater their chances of winning.

A voter needs to key in his/her vote in this valid format and SMS it to 79797:

<Celebrity’s Voting Code>space<Voter’s name>space<Voter’s NRIC No.>space<Voter’s email address>
For example, L1 Nicole Lim S1234567B nicolelim@gmail.com

Voting ceases on 31 July. Each SMS vote costs S$0.30.

Shirley Tan, SPH Search’s Director of Business Development (Mobile), says, “By supporting Omy with our SMS voting mechanism, we want to help give voters an additional channel to vote for their favourite celebrity bloggers in the Singapore Blog Awards 2009. Though this may be the first time that voters of the Singapore Blog Awards are allowed to vote for their favourites using SMS, we have implemented similar SMS voting mechanisms for other contests with satisfactory results.”

Lee Kuan Fung, Associate Editor of Omy.sg, says, “New media does not just refer to the Internet world. By collaborating with Rednano, the public can now get involved with the Singapore Blog Awards, whether via the Internet or their mobile phones, making the awards a truly multi-disciplinary new age event.”

Organised by Omy, SPH’s bilingual news and interactive web portal, Singapore Blog Awards is running for the second year to honour individuals who devote their time and energy to create and maintain informative and innovative blogs.
