Singapore, June 25, 2009 – Seventeen Singapore, a publication of SPH Magazines Pte Ltd ("SPH Magazines"), presents Seventeen Summer Challenge 2009. The Seventeen Singapore outdoor event goes ultra-sporty this year with a 10-team sports challenge, a cheerleading competition, as well as BMX bike and skateboarding stunts.
Seventeen Summer Challenge has been an annual reader event since 2002. To obtain invites to the event, readers can log on to www.seventeen.com.sg/summerchallenge09 for more details.
Seventeen Summer Challenge 2009 will kick off with a friendly sports competition between 10 teams of Seventeen readers aged 15 to 23, with each team comprising two girls and two guys. The teams will compete in street soccer, mini volleyball and Captain’s Ball. Representatives from the Singapore Sports Council will referee the street soccer and mini volleyball competitions.
The team that scores the most points for all three games will be named the Ultimate Seventeen Summer Challenge 2009 Champions. They will take home a hamper worth $2,500, while the second- and third-prize teams will each receive hampers worth $1,500 and $500, respectively. There are also seven consolation prize hampers worth $400 each to be given away.
Guests will also be treated to a mini cheerleading competition, featuring two cheerleading squads: Wildcards and Fantastic Crew. Wildcards is a cheerleading youth academy sponsored by the People’s Association Youth Movement, while Fantastic Crew is a cheerleading and dance group by the successful Fantastic Four All Male Dance Team. The winner of the Seventeen Summer Challenge 2009 cheerleading competition will be awarded a $1,200 prize hamper, while the runner-up will receive a $500 prize hamper. Each prize hamper contains products and vouchers from the event sponsors, namely Billabong, Yami Yogurt, Veet, Maybelline and Coppertone.
Following these competitions are a BMX bike stunt presentation by Urban In-line, and a skateboarding display by professional skateboarders. After the skateboarding display, guests will get to show off their skateboarding stunts – the one with the best moves will win an Element Skateboard worth $219.
Seventeen’s Summer Babe and Hunk will be chosen from the 10 Summer Challenge teams. Seventeen Singapore editor Sasha Gonzales said: “We want our Summer Babe and Hunk 2009 to be fun, energetic, confident and outdoorsy. They must also have good teamsmanship and personify that competitive spirit.” Seventeen’s Summer Babe and Hunk 2009 will each walk away with prizes worth over $150, from Veet, Coppertone, Billabong, and Seventeen.
One Seventeen reader will also go home with a lucky draw grand prize of a 4D/3N stay in a two-storey Villa Suite at Banthai Beach Resort, Phuket. The prize, sponsored by Wotif.com, is worth $8,500.
Seventeen Summer Challenge is a favourite with advertisers. This year, participating brands include Billabong, Yami Yogurt, Veet, Maybelline, Coppertone, Playground @ Big Splash and Wotif.com.
