23 June 2003 - Times Periodicals Pte Ltd (TP), the magazine publishing arm of media giant Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), will be renamed SPH Magazines Pte Ltd with effect from today.
The name change is to reflect the leading market position of SPH magazines, which include such bestsellers as Her World, Her World Brides , Home & Decor and Young Parents. The direct association with the parent company will promote synergy among SPH’s businesses and is consistent with how SPH identifies its strategic business units. For example, SPH MediaWorks for television and SPH Asia One for Internet business.
SPH Magazines’ chairman, Mr Wee Leong How, says: "To be known as SPH Magazines better reflects our parentage.’’
The name change comes at a time when SPH Magazines is poised to expand its portfolio of magazines, which also include contract publishing titles such as SIA’s inflight magazine SilverKris, NSMan and ResQ.
"We thought the word Periodicals was dated and we needed a more progressive and international corporate image," says SPH Magazines’ Managing Director Mr David Tay. "The change marks a new and exciting phase for the company."
TP started as a division of Times Publications Ltd which was later known as Times Publishing Ltd and, in May 1999 it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SPH.
