SPH Ink Awards Celebrates the Best in Creative Print Ads

Singapore, 23 March 2009 – Leading media company Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is inviting all advertising agencies, advertisers and other advertising-related organisations to submit their print advertisements published in any of SPH’s 17 newspaper titles for this year’s SPH Ink Awards.

The Ink Awards was started by SPH to recognise and honour the best in print advertisements and the creative people within the print advertising industry. This year’s Awards celebrates the journey of conceiving, creating and delivering great print advertisements.

Mr Leslie Fong, Senior Executive Vice-President of SPH’s Marketing Division, said: “Today’s advertising scene is a busy one, and consumers’ attention is short and fickle. Creativity is often the key to a truly successful print ad or campaign. It is what makes people remember an advertisement and, more importantly, the message it is conveying. Through the Ink Awards, SPH would like to pay tribute to the creative people who made a lasting impact through their work.”

There are six categories in this year’s Ink Awards:

Category A: Press Ad Individual (English)
Category B: Press Ad Campaign (English)
Category C: Press Ad – Single / Campaign (Chinese)
Category D: Press Ad – Classified / Recruitment
Category E: Press Creative Media Buy
Category F: Integrated Campaign

The ’Integrated Campaign’ category is a new category this year. To be eligible, campaigns must have appeared in at least two other SPH marketing platforms besides newspapers. SPH’s comprehensive range of marketing platforms include more than 100 magazine titles, 2 radio stations, out-of-home as well as online media, including internet TV.

“Nowadays, it is necessary for marketers to select a range of different tools to reach their audience, and SPH provides them with that choice. Recognising the growing trend, we added the new category as we felt that the Ink Awards should also reward creative integrated campaigns,” added Mr Fong.

To be eligible for the Ink Awards, entries must have appeared in any of the 17 SPH newspaper titles during the period of 1 June 2008 to 31 May 2009. The submission deadline is 31 May 2009.

The winners of the fourth Ink Awards will be announced in a gala event in July 2009. The top entry of each category will win $3,000 in cash as well as receive a full page advertising space in SPH’s flagship newspapers, The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao. In addition, one of the six top entries who is also the winner of the Readers Choice will win the Grand Prix and a $10,000 cash prize.

Broadcasting
SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 FM in Mandarin and Radio 91.3 FM in English.

Outdoor Advertising
In addition, SPH has ventured into outdoor advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest outdoor motion display advertising network media company and a 35 per cent stake in TOM Outdoor Media Group, a leading outdoor advertising company in China.

Properties
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore’s main shopping belt. SPH’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
