SPH's New Media top latest Hitwise Rankings

Singapore, 2 March 2009 - Several websites of Singapore Press Holdings Ltd ("SPH") earned top spots in Hitwise Rankings in the 4th quarter of 2008 (from October to December 2008).

Asiaone’s Health.asiaone.com is number one in Hitwise’s Health and Medical category while Asiaone’s Soshiok.com rules the Food and Beverage (Lifestyle and Reference) category again, after topping the same category in the 3rd quarter. Soshiok.com captures the largest market share in this category, which covers food and wine appreciation, gourmet and epicurean lifestyle, entertaining and cooking. It has reigned as the number one food and beverage lifestyle site in Singapore since its launch last May.

Zaobao.com remains number one in the News and Media (Print) category, while ST701.com continues as number one in the Shopping and Classifieds (Classified) category, both for the third consecutive quarter.

Hardwarezone.com, a longstanding champion in the IT categories, tops three categories this time round. They are the Computers and Internet (Hardware, Computers & internet), Social Networking & Forums, and News and Media (IT Media) sections.

Several other SPH sites also performed well. Five took second spot in their respective categories. These sites include BTstocks.asiaone.com, Businesstimes.com.sg, singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg, Club.stomp.com.sg and Hardwarezone.com.

Five SPH sites came in third in their respective categories. These sites are Business.asiaone.com, Mypaper.com, Digital.asiaone.com, Travel.asiaone.com and Health.zaobao.com.

Speaking for AsiaOne, it’s editor, Adrian Tay, said, “In today’s wired world, readers can go anywhere online. Put up a site that’s not something they like and they won’t come back. So the no.1 ranking is really an indication of the team’s hard work in keeping readers’ attention. And having them come back for more is something we constantly work at."

For Zaobao.com, Zheng Wei, its online editor said:" Zaobao.com continues to top Hitwise’s print media category, a testimony to Zaobao’s success in reinventing our newsroom operations for multimedia publication. Zaobao’s journalists are not only writing for print now, but are also feeding first-hand real-time news to us. The speed and depth of our content are the two key factors that continue to draw readers to our website."

For ST701, Elsie Chua, Executive Vice President, Marketing, SPH Ltd, said, "ST701 is a relatively new online classifieds site and we are happy to have served the online community in finding the right job, property, car or other products and services."

For Hardwarezone.com, Lim Chuan Jer, General Manager of SPH Magazines, said, "The No.1 Hitwise ranking is highly coveted by any publisher as it’s an acknowledgment of the netizens that the site indeed serves their needs. For us, our quarter-after-quarter achievement of this top ranking for hardwarezone.com is only made possible by the continuous understanding and relentless pursuit of satisfying these netizens’ needs. Till now, we have never stopped in this pursuit and we never willl. That, we guarantee."
