Singapore, 24 November 2008 – Starting today, rednano.sg, Singapore´s local search and directory service, will offer access to a bigger and more extensive database of Singapore-themed images to its users, through a tie-up with the world´s leading imagery provider Getty Images.

This, and a separate collaboration with WhosGoing.sg, a party community portal, will boost the rednano.sg image bank by more than 800,000 Singapore-themed *records.
rednano.sg´s extensive collection includes images generated daily by SPH´s award-winning photojournalists. This covers multiple genres such as:

  • News (SARS),
  • Sports (Swimming, Table Tennis, Bowling, Golf)
  • Entertainment/Events (Singapore GP F1 Race, National Day Parade)
  • Local celebrities
  • Famous Personalities (President SR Nathan, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew)

Founded in Seattle, USA in 1995, Getty Images is the world´s leading creator and distributor of photos and images and the first company to license imagery via the World Wide Web. Each month, Getty Images serves out 3.2 billion thumbnails (of photos) and attracts 175 million page views and over 4 million unique visitors to its websites. The first phase of this strategic partnership between rednano.sg and Getty Images focuses on Singapore- themed images and will subsequently cover Asian-themed photos and images.

Mr Paul Jansen, CEO of rednano.sg, said: “Our rednano.sg users include readers looking for news, professionals doing research, and students working on school projects. By working with a leading and reputable partner like Getty Images, Rednano gives users access to many more archived and current photos and images about Singapore."

Ms Elsie Ng, Sales Director of Getty Images, expressed delight on the partnership with rednano.sg: "We are proud to be part of the rednano.sg project, the first of its kind in Singapore, plus this provides an additional channel for Getty Images to reach out to the Singapore market.”

To further augment its image database, rednano.sg has also partnered with local entertainment portal WhosGoing.sg and will carry its pictures. WhosGoing.sg provides image records of the burgeoning local night clubbing scene.

*Note: An image can have more than one record. For instance, a picture of a red car at an accident scene can serve user looking for a car, an accident, the brand of the vehicle and so forth.
