SPH Magazines raises the industry standards

Singapore, 30 November 2007SPH MAGAZINES PTE LTD ("SPH Magazines") will be announcing initiatives this December that will raise the standard for quality magazine publications in Singapore. Aimed at bringing about improvements in print quality of magazines, as well as increasing efficiency in the running of advertisements, SPH Magazines will launch a Colour Standard for all its magazines and procure exceptional pricing for the ad transmission for its advertisers and agencies – which allows magazine advertisements to move more quickly from delivery to print.

These initiatives will be announced on 7 December 2007 at MagNet – a networking forum for media professionals, which are set to augment SPH Magazines as a market leader in the industry. MagNet will be held at Denise, the Wine Shop.

The Colour Standard is scheduled for a launch in January 2008, where all SPH Magazines’ publications will begin sharing the same Colour Standard. All advertisements to be inserted in the stable of publications will have to comply with this new standard from March 2008 issue.

Loh Yew Seng, CEO of SPH Magazines Pte Ltd says: "We aim to raise the bar of excellence for colour standards in the production of high quality magazine publications in Singapore and gradually in the region. The use of this standard will ensure that only consistent, high-quality images will be produced in our magazines. Communication protocols between advertisers, editors, printers, and designers, leading to a common understanding of work expectations will be improved as a result of this implementation."

"SPH Magazines is an innovator in the industry," says Samuel Lee of Bits and Bytes Marketing Pte Ltd who is instrumental in developing the Colour Standard with SPH Magazines. He adds, "Advertisers can be part of the company’s efforts to spearhead change in the magazine industry. Being a fervent supporter of the graphic arts industry, it is our aim to help companies achieve high quality in their colours and prints. Standardization such as ISO12647-2 is the way forward to serve serious print buyers. We are extremely honoured to play a major role in this burgeoning magazine publishing industry together with the Publisher of Choice."

The second initiative improves ad copy transmission by cutting down on time taken to submit advertisements for printing for various publications. This is achieved through the use of Quickcut, a software that "validates" the print specifications of the advertisement digitally and "alerts" the sender automatically if the print specification is different from the print requirement.

This is in contrast with the current practice of sending files back and forth manually between advertisement agencies and the publisher. This new initiative will cut down on time and cost as it streamlines the entire process of validating and transmitting.

Quickcut has become the global industrial standard for validating and delivering digital advertisements. In many markets worldwide, up to 90% of all print advertisements are validated and then transmitted by Quickcut.

SPH Magazines has negotiated with Quickcut for very attractive and significant discounts (up to 45%) for those advertisements for insertion in any of SPH Magazines’ titles which are validated through Quickcut for its advertisers and agencies. In addition from now until February 2008, first-time users can take advantage of a 10% discount on Quickcut software. This offer is inclusive of installation, initial training and one month’s worth of validation and transmission to SPH Magazines, all in which will be free of charge.
