Singapore, 12 October 2007 - Lianhe Wanbao (联合晚报), first published in 1983 and a must-read for many Chinese readers for the past 24 years, will be transformed into an upbeat and refreshing Chinese evening daily this coming Monday on 15 October.
The objective of the revamp is to strengthen its existing readership while attracting a new generation of readers. The revamped newspaper will also provide advertisers with more opportunities to reach out to a wider market.
Sporting a new masthead, the new Lianhe Wanbao will bear a striking dual-cover. The innovative design offers readers the combination of top news stories on the front cover and the latest entertainment and lifestyle reports on the back cover. Whether they choose to read it from the front or back, Lianhe Wanbao will satisfy the readers’ appetite for different news.
The modern magazine-style layout is eye-catching with vibrant visuals, fonts, colours and infographics. With home and crime news as its main staple, Lianhe Wanbao will also increase its entertainment coverage to feed readers who are hungry for juicy celebrity news. There will be more attractive use of story boards, charts, tables and side bars to package and present news in a more reader-friendly format.
Lianhe Wanbao’s Acting Editor Mr Peter Ong says: "This newspaper will remain close to the pulses of the community. While it leverages on its existing strength in chasing news leads which are of interest to people, it also packages these reports into more exciting stories to appeal to the discerning readers today. The revamped product will surprise readers with its improved design and content."
