Over 4,000 Female Runners Sign Up For Shape Run 2007 In Just One Week

Women snap up places at SHAPE Run 2007 in record time, hitting 4,000 in a week.

Singapore, 2 July 2007 – SPH Magazines Pte Ltd´s SHAPE, the complete mind & body guide for women, opened registration for their annual Shape Run on 22 June 07. Overnight, over 500 female runners responded by registering for the all-women run.

Since then, over 4,000 women have booked their spot to participate in the race on 9 September. With over two-thirds of the places filled up, those keen to take part are advised to register quickly to avoid disappointment.

Elisabeth Gwee, editor of SHAPE, says: “Our inaugural run last year attracted over 5,000 sign-ups. But for safety reasons, we allowed just 2,500 women to take part. The good news is this year, we´ve got spots for up to 6,000 runners.”

On the overwhelming response Shape Run 2007 has received so far, Elisabeth says: "We’re thrilled that so many women have responded so quickly and enthusiastically. It goes to show the impact that SHAPE has had on motivating women to lead a more active lifestyle. As the only mind and body guide for women, SHAPE is proud to provide them with the information and opportunities to live healthy, get fit and look great."

SHAPE spearheaded Singapore´s first-ever women-only competitive run last year on 16 July 2006, sparking off a trend of women-only sporting events. This year´s Shape Run 2007 is being held in conjunction with SHAPE´s 3rd Anniversary, with the aim of encouraging more women to include sports, particularly running, as part of their healthy active lifestyle.

Shape Run 2007 is targeted at both first-timers and seasoned runners. Choose between a 5km and 10km route that starts at the Esplanade and takes you down Shenton Way. Whether you´re in it to better your time clocked last year or to make a personal dream come true, you´ll be guaranteed a fun and rewarding experience.

All females above the age of 16 years old are welcome to join the race. Registration fees for the Run costs $20. It is fully redeemable for a 6-month SHAPE subscription worth $30. Fabulous Runner´s Kits worth $870 each will be given out on the day of the race. These kits consist of a SHAPE sports bag, Nike t-shirt, spa vouchers, yoghurt, yoga trial classes, fragrances and many other freebies.

The winner of the 10km run will receive a $1,000 cash prize and over $11,000 worth of products. For the 5km category, the winner gets a $500 cash prize and $7500 worth of products. Prizes will also be given to participants who come in 2nd to 10th placing for both categories of the run (5km/10km).
