Singapore, 1 June 2007 - my paper, or 我报, Singapore’s first
free Chinese newspaper, celebrates its 1st anniversary in June. A series of
activities to celebrate the paper’s birthday from May will culminate with the
ultimate beach party at Cafe del Mar on Sentosa on 1 June.
my paperreaders have been enjoying great promotions since the month-long celebrations kicked off in May. The exciting weekly celebration treats ranged from incredible 1-for-1 deals, exciting hourly specials, cool $1 movie tickets, to crazy $11 and $111 buys for my paper readers. Response from the readers has been tremendous.
On 1 June, my paper will be giving out 1500 special breakfast sets comprising 2 specially created muffins and a drink (MY cup of tea, 茶出真我) to readers who has a copy of my paper outside Raffles Place, Tanjong Pagar and Orchard MRT stations. The muffins are specially created by BreadTalk, in celebration of my paper’s 1st birthday, and will be on sale for 1 month at all BreadTalk outlets.
A large crowd of 3000 is expected to party the night away at Cafe del Mar, Sentosa on 1 June at the my paperSCREAM 07 party. Heart-throb crooner Gary Cao Ge曹格, Taiwan stars REAL 阿沁 and Soda Green 苏打绿, Singapore Idol finalist Jonathan Leong, internationally famous samba-percussion band Wicked Aura, all-girl group FemmeArsNova and local band Tabula will entertain the crowd late into the night.
Besides the electrifying performances, partygoers can immerse themselves in the energetic carnival atmosphere with fire twirlers and Gyrotron rides, and mingle with my paper ambassadors and hot samba ladies, while grooving to the beats of Cafe del Mar DJs.
my papercertainly has much to celebrate. Its simple and concise editorial has proven so attractive to readers that circulation has grown 50%, from 120,000 copies daily, when it was launched on June 1 last year, to 180,000 now. According to the last survey done by AC Nielson in November last year, readership stands at 279,000 daily. The ease to locate my paper at various commuter points and office lobbies in CBD area in the morning also made it a hit with PMEBs, especially young professionals.
Mr Goh Sin Teck, Editor of my paper, says: "After making sure that we have a product that is well received by our readers, we want to work closer with advertisers in the coming year. I think that is the other half of the battle. We will also do more in terms of harnessing multimedia. Readers will no longer be just confined to reading us. They can hear us via podcast, watch us via vodcast and interact with us online. We aim to be an interactive paper. There are so many possibilities out there.”
