Torque Magazine’s New Appointments

Singapore - 1 February 2007 - Torque magazine has appointed Lee Nian Tjoe as its new editor and Christopher Tan as its consulting editor with effect from January 2007. Mr Lee was Torque´s Deputy Editor since May 2006 while motoring veteran Mr Tan was its editor since September 2004. Mr Lee will work with Mr Tan to lead the editorial team of Singapore´s premiere motoring magazine.

Ms Caroline Ngui, SPH Magazines´ Group Editor-in-Chief, says: “These appointments will position us to continually innovate Torque to meet the needs of our readers. Chris´ appointment as consulting editor means that the editorial team will continue to benefit from his revolutionary vision of the magazine as an upbeat, sexy and yet stylish publication.

"During his tenure as editor, the readership of Torque had increased by more than twofold and advertisers´ confidence had also been increased tremendously. We are grateful that Chris agreed to stay on with the magazine to help us to grow and develop the magazine further with his invaluable insights into the motoring industry.”

Mr Tan, who is also a senior correspondent with The Straits Times newspaper, says: “Nian Tjoe has done his share of both the exciting and the mundane duties at Torque. On top of the road test reports each month, it’s also his business to work out the details in new sections in the magazine. This include the increasingly popular food and entertainment pages in Torque, as well as the rest of the elements that add up to form the "lifestyle" promise in Singapore’s leading monthly automotive magazine.

"I also believe that his leadership and management style will certainly put the editorial team in good stead to meet the requirements of Torque´s readers.”

Mr Lee, 29, started as a staff writer with the magazine in 2001. He also contributes regularly to motoring sections of various titles under the SPH Magazines’s group of publications.
