Singapore's top business leaders recognised at Singapore Business Awards

Singapore, 28 March 2019 - Mr Lim Hock Chee, Group Executive Chairman of Sheng Siong Group Ltd, was named Businessman of the Year 2018 at this year's Singapore Business Awards (SBA).

Mr Lim transformed the Sheng Siong Group from a modest no-frills grocery business to a listed company and Singapore's third-largest supermarket chain with a strong emphasis on customer service and choice. With 54 outlets (as at March 2019), and selling a variety of goods from groceries and seafood to stationery and electronics, the chain prides itself for having the fastest cashiers and shortest queues.

In addition to the Businessman of the Year award, the other awards in the SBA roll of honour were the Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year, Outstanding Overseas Executive of the Year and The Enterprise Award.

Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong was the Guest-of-Honour at this evening's SBA 2019 presentation dinner held at The Ritz-Carlton Millenia, Singapore.

Mr Wong Wei Kong, Chairman of the SBA organising committee and Editor of The Business Times, said: “The 4 winners of this year’s Singapore Business Awards have all demonstrated amazing grit, persistence and flair in their respective businesses and SBA 2019 has recognised the efforts and contributions to each of their industries. A very heartfelt congratulations to these very well-deserved winners!”

Outstanding Overseas Executive of the Year 2018

Citation: For blazing the trails in driving GGV Capital's growth in China, with 8 IPOs and numerous M&As to her name in the last 8 years, including some of China's biggest global success stories like YY, UCweb and Xiaomi.

Citation: For successfully diversifying into the workers and student accommodation business to become one of Singapore's largest owners-managers with workers accommodation assets in Singapore and Malaysia, and student accommodation assets in Singapore, Australia, South Korea, the UK and the US.

The Singapore Business Awards

The Singapore Business Awards (SBA) is jointly organised by The Business Times, Singapore’s leading business daily, and DHL Express Singapore, the world’s leading express and logistics company.
