The Singapore Women’s Weekly Great Women of Our Time 2017

Singapore, 31 August 2017 – The Singapore Women’s Weekly, a multi-platform media brand by SPH Magazines, will be honouring 18 inspiring women at its annual Great Women of Our Time 2017 Awards in October.

Aimed at inspiring and empowering the modern working woman, the awards honour 18 of the nation's most inspiring women from six fields: Arts & Media; Design & Style; Education & Public Service; Health, Sports & Wellness; Finance & Commerce; and Science & Technology. All the women have been selected for outstanding performance in their professions and their contributions to public service. (Please refer to Annex A for detailed list of nominees.)

This year, The Singapore Women’s Weekly will be celebrating her 20th Anniversary. As part of the celebrations, Honorary Awards will be given to Elim Chew, the entrepreneur extraordinaire of 77th Street, who has expanded her range of businesses to include restaurants, a courier service and app, as well as fish farming; and Laura Hwang, who has dedicated many of her years to causes that empower women. Laura is currently the Singapore Representative to the Asean Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children.

To date, The Singapore Women’s Weekly has shone the spotlight on over 200 women as part of the Great Women of Our Time initiative, with many of these women going on to even greater heights with their achievements and pursuits.

Barbara Koh, Editor-in-Chief, The Singapore Women's Weekly, said: “With this awards initiative, The Singapore Women’s Weekly empowers and enables through inspiration. We not only acknowledge these incredible women, who often go about their daily work without accolades, but also hope to tell their stories – real-life lessons and experiences – that our audience can benefit from.”
