Jurong BirdPark´s All Star BirdShow is now called Birds n Buddies

Singapore, 14 June 2006 - The popular All Star BirdShow at the Jurong BirdPark will change its name to Birds n Buddies.

The daily show which features the largest collection of live birds in a single show, will now include new bird-inspired characters created by international Las Vegas producer, creative director and production designer Pieter Grove.

Adopted by Singapore Press Holdings since 2003, the world-class birdshow was the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region when it was started in 1982. It boasts the widest variety of performing birds in a single show in the world. When the bird show turned 21 in June 2003, its special 21st anniversary show attracted a record 13,000 visitors to the park.

In addition to the bird show, SPH has been a long-time partner of Jurong BirdPark in supporting wildlife conservation with the adoption of the Carribean Flamingos since 1997 and Samson the Golden Eagle since 2001.

Set to open officially in late July 2006, the new Birds n Buddies show promises the usual creative wit of the park´s star performers like Amigo, Sassy, Mr. & Mrs Horn and others. The key difference will now feature twelve costumed characters with outfits intricately designed in hand sewn beads, colourful accessories and glitzy tones.

The characters also have names to match their individual personalities. They include; Toukie the Toucan, Rocky the Penguin, Randy the Rooster, Crazy Bird, Vulcan the Vulture, Pecky the Woodpecker, Pedro the Pelican, Maxime & Macho the Macaws, Polly the Parrot, Cranky the Crow, Swanee the Swan and more.

The characters will spice up the show with new comedy, dramatic audience interaction and personality driven appearance. Meet and greet sessions will also be available for the audience to take photos with the colourful bird characters.

The Pools Amphitheatre, which has a seating capacity of 2,000 will be outfitted with a series of village like platforms inspired by the old building structures of the Singapore region. The plot will centre on the fun invasion of these make-believe bird characters ready to entertain.

The Birds n Buddies show is all part of the All New Jurong BirdPark development which includes the new Palm Plaza entrance, the New African Wetlands inspired by the Okavango Exhibit, the new Avian Hospital- Asia Pacific´s first, new Bongo Burger , the new Ben & Jerry´s air-conditioned ice cream parlour and the new Feather´s Boutique which will merchandise bird-inspired gift and souvenir items.
