Berita Harian organises Islamic Financial Planning conference

Singapore, 2 June 2005 - How does Islam view wealth? What are the positive values of being a rich Muslim? These questions and more will be answered at the fourth Berita Harian Financial Planning Conference which will be held on July 23, 2006, Sunday, at the Raffles Ballroom, Raffles City Convention Centre from 8.30am to 6.00pm.

Organised by Berita Harian, the conference theme is "Islamic Financial Planning". SSA Consulting Group is the co-organiser while Maybank in Singapore is the sponsor of this event. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, will be the Guest-of-Honour.

The keynote speaker will be Mr Abdullah Gymnastiar from Indonesia. A popular management guru and Managing Director of MQ Corp, he is better known as Aa Gym. Mr Abdullah is a successful entrepreneur with a business empire worth some 27 billion rupiah (S$5.5 million). His topic will be "Muslim must be rich!" and he will share with participants the positive values of being rich, as well as shed light on how Islam views wealth.

Mr Guntor Sadali, Editor of Berita Harian, said, "The theme Islamic Financial Planning has been chosen as there is a growing interest in Islamic finance and banking products."

Besides Mr Gymnastiar, the head of Islamic Banking at Maybank, Mr Rosli Mohd Yusof, will be another of the four expert speakers at the conference. He will provide advice on growing and diversifying investment portfolios using financial products that are permissible in Islam in the context of the Singapore market.

Ms Hajah Rohani Hj Mohd Shahir, a well-known figure in the Malaysian financial planning scene will enlighten participants on the new trend of Islamic Financial Planning in the context of the Muslim community in Singapore.

In addition, Mr Leong Sze Hian, Vice President of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, will highlight the importance of medical insurance to Muslims. His discussion will include the different types of medical insurance coverages available, the advantages and disadvantages of various policies, and whether having government medical insurance alone is adequate.
