Shape crowns first Shape Fit Girl

Singapore, 1 March 2017 – Shape is proud to announce the winner of its inaugural Shape Fit Girl contest. A first of its kind, Shape was on the search for an inspiring female fitness enthusiast in Singapore – one who works out regularly, enjoys eating healthily and shares her journey on social media.

Victoria Pang, 23, a final year student at the Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore, came out tops out of the contestants, and won herself a cover shoot with Shape. Not only is she the cover girl for the Shape’s March 2017 issue, her story was also featured in the same issue.

With this win, Victoria hopes to inspire more women to keep fit and active. She said: “I want to encourage other women by promoting body positivity and sharing fitness tips through social media channels like Instagram. Nowadays, it’s become commonplace for Instagram to be a platform that promotes unhealthy body image goals such as the thigh gap. But I want people to know that there isn’t only one perfect or ideal fit body. Instead, we need to work towards building up our own bodies.”

The contest was judged by: Editor of Shape, Zarelda Marie Goh; Group Editor of SPH Magazines, Raymond Goh; Senior Fitness Manager of Amore’s Group, Pauline Won; Brand Manager of Reebok, Lyn Lay; and Brand Executive of Za Cosmetics Singapore, Sharon Lee.

Victoria won the judges over with her well-curated Instagram account @veektoriaa, which details her love for fitness, wellness and living a happy life. Her bubbly personality and fresh face shone through.

Shape Editor Zarelda said: “At Shape, we believe that living healthily, staying fit and eating well are fun and enjoyable activities. Victoria personifies the values of the magazine, making her an apt face for the March 2017 cover.”

In addition to the cover shoot, Victoria took home a one-year Amore Fitness fitness membership worth $2,233, three Amore Fitness personal training sessions worth $481, an Amore Fitness Aromatic Swedish massage worth $105, Reebok vouchers worth $800, and a Za Cosmetics Singapore makeup gift set worth $241. She will also be featured in Shape photo shoots and videos, and will be invited to exclusive fitness events.

Entries for the Shape Fit Girl contest were submitted via Instagram where interested parties uploaded a photo of themselves, told us why leading a healthy lifestyle is important and hashtagged #ShapeFitGirl. Shape received 117 unique submissions within three weeks, from 24 October to 14 November 2016.

In the pre-judging round, 20 girls were shortlisted before the chosen to come down to the Shape office for an interview, after which five finalists were chosen. The finalists had the chance to do an Instagram takeover with Shape.

The winner was chosen among the five finalists, who was determined 90% by the judges and 10% by public voting. Over the five-week voting period from 21 December 2016, Shape received a total of 6,782 votes and 1,649 unique votes. One voter won two pieces of Reebok ActivChill apparel worth $138.

Shape Fit Girl was co-presented by Amore Fitness. The official apparel was Reebok and the official makeup was Za Cosmetics Singapore.
