Singapore, 18 April 2006 -
Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) today launched a WAP version of its full-fledged SPH Mobile News service for Singtel, Starhub and M1 mobile phone subscribers.
The move extends the service to an extra 2.5 million post-paid subscribers, who will now be able to access news and infotainment direct from SPH newsrooms on their mobile phones, regardless of their service providers or phone models. SPH Mobile News was previously only available to i-mode subscribers.
The majority of mobile phone handsets used in Singapore are WAP-enabled models.
Like i-mode subscribers, SPH Mobile News subscribers will enjoy full access to news from SPH´s flagship publications like The Straits Times, The Business Times and Lianhe Zaobao for as little as $3 a month. Decision-makers and subscribers who need the latest in local and global developments can turn to SPH Mobile News´ innovative "Breaking News" service for $5 a month, which delivers 8 to12 updates to subscribers from 6.30am to midnight. Journalists in SPH newsrooms work throughout the day to bring up-to-the-minute updates to subscribers.
Daily news from The Straits Times and The Business Times will be available after 6.30am while content from Lianhe Zaobao will be available after 8am. Subscribers can simply log on to wap.sph.com.sg to access the breaking news updates at their convenience.
For those looking for lighter reads, SPH Lifestyle is the service of choice. Subscribers will find a selection of stories from SPH’s popular weekly magazines Digital Life, Urban and Mind Your Body, to help them stay current with the latest technology news, fashion and health and wellness stories.
Says Mr Raymond Teoh, Senior Manager, SPH Internet Business Unit, “With SPH Mobile News, you can take the news with you everywhere. Literally. SPH Mobile News keeps you informed and entertained while you are on the go, in addition to your daily dosage of news from SPH´s suite of print and online publications. Offering SPH news on the mobile platform is part of our commitment to enhance the portability and accessibility of our news content.”
SPH Mobile News was first available on StarHub´s i-mode service in November 2005. As part of its commitment to continually expand its new media offerings, SPH later collaborated with the three telecommunications companies - Singtel, StarHub and M1- to extend the service to all WAP users.
SPH news is now available on three platforms – print, online and mobile.
