Singapore, 9 November 2016 – Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) picked up ten awards at the Asian Digital Media Awards 2016, presented this afternoon at the Digital Media Asia 2016 conference at The Orchard Hotel in Singapore.
The Straits Times (ST), SPH’s English-language flagship daily and the most-read newspaper in Singapore, was the biggest winner, walking away with seven awards in all.
Among its wins was a Gold award for Best News Website for Fleeing to Survive, which took an in-depth look at the migrant crisis gripping South-east Asia and Europe, tracing the migrants' treacherous paths as they flee their homes in search of a better life.
Another Gold award for Best Data Visualisation Project went to ST's Animals Crossing package. It combined solid reporting with multimedia elements such as videos, a 3-D deconstruction of the eco-link and even audio clips of animal calls to provide readers with an exclusive insight into the Eco-Link@BKE, South-east Asia's first bridge reserved solely for animals to cross safely between two forests.
It won a Silver for straitstimes.com, a fully responsive website that is continuously being improved based on data and iterative development models. The site underwent a major revamp in mid-2015 and now boasts reader-centric enhancements, such as social listening widgets to capture conversations around hot topics and dynamic image carousels for a more visual and engaging experience.
Another winning initiative was askST, which clinched Bronze for Best New Product. AskST is a cross-media reader engagement programme that allows readers to tap ST’s pool of experienced correspondents and their contacts for information on specific topics of interest. The programme, launched in early 2015, has addressed topics ranging from personal finance and education to entertainment and health matters. Readers get answers to their burning questions in a variety of ways: through explainers on the ST website, by e-mailing their questions, via regular webchats, and during events and forums that the newspaper organises.

Brand Insider, SPH’s content marketing vehicle, collaborated with SPH Razor on Canon’s campaign for Mother’s Day and won a Silver for Best Digital Advertising Campaign.
Stomp, the citizen-journalism website, was also presented with two awards: a Silver for Best News Mobile Service for its WhatsApp service and a Bronze for Best Reader Engagement. Stomp's WhatsApp service delivers content to readers directly on their mobile phones. Readers can also receive breaking news updates as well as contribute reports to Stomp anytime and anywhere. Last year, Stomp clinched Gold for Best New Product for its iPad App at the awards.

The Asian Digital Media Awards 2016 is presented by World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA). It recognises publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies to meet the major changes in how people consume news and information in today’s dynamic media landscape.
