Singapore, 23 October 2016 – Singapore’s best and most popular getai talents received recognition at the Shin Min / Wanbao Getai Awards 2016 《新明/晚报歌台红星大奖颁奖礼2016》tonight at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) Chinese evening newspapers Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao, the 7th Getai Awards honour the best getai talents in the local entertainment scene, befitting its status as the premier Singapore Getai awards event.
A total of 29 awards in the "Most Popular" and "Best" categories were given out. The 24 "Most Popular" awards are based on votes cast by readers of both evening dailies, as well as online voting. A panel of judges, comprising both evening newspapers’ journalists and local media industry experts, also picked five winners for the "Best" category.

Famed getai artiste Hao Hao did a spectacular opening, choreographed by award-winning local film-maker Royston Tan. The “Ah boys to men” actors Jasper, Maxi and Shu An (赖宇涵、林俊良和温淑安) also entertained the crowd with their singing. UFM100.3 DJs Li Mei and Liang Quan（丽梅和良泉）extended their weekly Facebook ‘live’ getai talkshow on stage as well.
The awards ceremony, graced by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong as the Guest of Honour, was attended by 6,000 people. Members of Parliament Baey Yam Keng and Patrick Tay Teck Guan were the Special Guests at the event. Proceeds from the sale of tickets to the show and awards ceremony will be donated to Ren Ci Hospital and Institute of Mental Health.
