New talent uncovered at Harper’s BAZAAR Asia NewGen Runway Show 2016

Singapore, 4 October 2016 – Two talented fashion designers Fedri Mak and Ng May Ee will be representing Singapore at the Harper’s BAZAAR Asia NewGen Runway Show 2016 on 27 October. Both of them will have the opportunity to showcase their winning collections alongside six other regional designers to about 500 guests.

BAZAAR Singapore will be hosting the final runway showdown at the National Gallery Singapore as part of Singapore Fashion Week, as eight designers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand battle it out for the top spot. 

The regional winner will be crowned after the runway show finale, and will walk away with a scholarship for a master’s degree in Fashion and Luxury Brand Management at the prestigious Istituto Marangoni, and a $20,000 cash sponsorship from Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore in collaboration with Swarovski.

Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore, in collaboration with Swarovski and along with its counterparts from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, initiated the Harper’s BAZAAR Asia NewGen Fashion Award in 2013 as a platform for young, up-and-coming local fashion designers to showcase their talent. The regional competition scouts for new talent and creates the opportunity for continued learning by forging a partnership with the internationally renowned fashion design school, Istituto Marangoni.

Winners of the Singapore league Fedri Mak and runner-up Ng May Ee emerged triumphant after the five-month search came to a close in May this year, where close to 200 people showed up to admire their work up close and attend the unveiling of the winner at Pedder on Scotts in Scotts Square. The exhibition of their collections at Pedder on Scotts ran for three weeks.

The winner and all eight finalists’ collections will be showcased in the four Asian editions of Harper’s BAZAAR.

Harper’s BAZAAR Asia NewGen Fashion Award 2016 is held in collaboration with Swarovski, who will be sponsoring $2,000 worth of crystals for each finalist to incorporate into their collections. As the regional sponsor for the award, Swarovski will also be offering $20,000 worth of products to the regional winner of Harper’s BAZAAR Asia NewGen Fashion Award 2016.
