SPH & SPH Foundation donate $350,000 to Community Chest

Singapore, 23 August 2016 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and SPH Foundation donated a total of $350,000 to Community Chest in support of its beneficiaries at the annual charity cheque presentation held at the SPH News Centre Auditorium today. From this sum, $150,000 was donated by SPH Foundation for the first time in support of the Special Education Financial Assistance (SPED FAS) Scheme in aid of more than 1,000 disabled and special needs students from low income families.

From the remaining $200,000 donation amount, 10 charities serving the elderly and disadvantaged families received $100,000 from SPH while SPH Foundation gave $100,000 to 10 charities serving underprivileged children and the disabled.

Guest of Honour Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of SPH and SPH Foundation, presented a cheque to Mr Eric Ang, Vice-Chairman of Community Chest, at the event. About 300 guests, including about 100 beneficiaries and caregivers, attended the event. They were from Lions Befrienders, The Salvation Army's Kids in Play (KIP), Shan You Counselling and Casework, and Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS).

The beneficiaries and guests were treated to a lunchtime concert by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), which was followed by a lunch reception. The national Chinese orchestra performed a repertoire of Chinese classics, local and Chinese folk tunes, conducted by SCO's Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. SCO is a partner of SPH's Gift of Music, a free community concert series sponsored by SPH.
