Young Singapore women engaged and inspired by rich life experiences and pertinent career advice at Her World Young Woman Achiever Forum 2016

Singapore, 19 March 2016 — Over 200 young women were inspired by the success tips and life-learning experiences of the speakers at the Her World Young Woman Achiever Forum (YWAF) 2016 at The Projector today. Themed “What does it mean for a woman to have it all?”, the annual forum is co-organised by Her World, Singapore’s No. 1 women’s magazine, and its award-winning online women’s portal herworldPLUS.

Her World editor Tracy Lee opened the forum, which explored what it meant to "have it all". She shared that she herself could not say for certain if she "had it all", but was of the opinion that she was extremely lucky to be a Singapore woman with plenty of education and opportunity, just like many of the participants at the forum.

The day’s discussions were separated into two sessions. The first session covered what it is like to work and succeed in a more corporate environment with the panel coming from diverse backgrounds such as SAC Madam Zuraidah Abdullah, 53, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Singapore Police Force, and Her World Woman of the Year 2015; Dr Yeo Sze Ling, 38, Research Scientist and Her World Young Woman Achiever 2013; tech-savvy Facebook’s Simrat Sawhney, 28, Industry Lead, Travel, SEA; and Lim Ke Xin, 33, a Senior Tax Manager at PwC.

Dr Yeo Sze Ling, who gave a short keynote speech prior to the first discussion session, said: "It is my first time attending an all-women's forum and it has offered me a great opportunity to share my own experiences and to learn from the other panellists, who are all successful women in their own fields."

The second session was all about entrepreneurship and creating your own path to success with some of Singapore’s top business women including Ms Tjin Lee, 42, CEO of Mercury Group who also oversees Singapore Fashion Week; social media influencer Rachel Lim, 28, Co-founder of successful local online fashion store- Love, Bonito; and Cheryl Ou, 34, Founder of the socially conscious business, The Nail Salon.

Both panels were moderated by Ms Angelique Teo, herself a successful woman in the field of broadcasting and journalism.

This was the third consecutive year that Her World had organised the Young Woman Achiever Forum, a day of learning from inspiring, successful local women, as part of its on-going Woman of the Year outreach programme.

Targeted at women aged 18 to 35, the attendees also had a good time networking with like-minded women at the event.

Ms Tracy Lee, editor of Her World, said: “The audience was engaged and inspired by the rich life experiences and pertinent career advice shared by our panelists. As Singapore’s biggest and most established women’s magazine for the past 56 years, Her World believes in inspiring, empowering and supporting generations of women as they dream big, and reach for the stars.”
