Lianhe Zaobao and Singapore Business Federation sign an MOU on “One Belt, One Road” portal

Singapore, 13 February 2016  Lianhe Zaobao (LHZB), the Chinese flagship newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) today (13 February) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work closely on a broad range of areas, including news content, business news, commentaries as well as online and offline activities.  The MOU was signed by Mr Anthony Tan, Executive Vice President of Chinese Media Group, SPH and Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman of SBF.

As part of the partnership, LHZB and SBF will work together on   a portal dedicated to the “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) development strategy and framework. This initiative is intended to drive a deep understanding of OBOR among Singapore enterprises, as well as offer Chinese readers around the world a Singapore and Southeast Asia perspective on OBOR. The portal, to be featured as a special section on Zaobao.com, will be unveiled online on 8 March 2016.

The portal will present an overview of OBOR, its latest developments, news, business opportunities, analyses, commentaries and a calendar of activities relating to the regions along OBOR. In-depth interviews relating to OBOR will also be featured in the portal. LHZB will introduce and promote the website through Weibo, WeChat, Facebook and other social media platforms to reach a diverse mix of audiences.

Mr Anthony Tan said: “Zaobao.com has great influence in China and Southeast Asia. The OBOR portal, launched in partnership with SBF, will be a point of focus for Singapore and offer a Singapore and Southeast Asia perspective of this significant strategy promoted by China. This portal will also enable Chinese readers all over the world to better understand the OBOR initiative, as well as its connections with the region and the world. All this will strengthen Zaobao.com’s position as an authoritative voice in the Chinese realm.”

Mr Teo Siong Seng said: “This website, launched in partnership with LHZB, will provide a platform for news and activities for Singapore enterprises taking part in OBOR. It will drive them to develop a deeper understanding of OBOR’s and seize more business opportunities. SBF will encourage its member companies to tap on this portal to share their experiences, generate business opportunities, expand their network and establish more partnerships with Chinese enterprises. The OBOR portal will also feature links to the SBF website.

OBOR is an abbreviated term for the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road combined. In September and October 2013 during his visit to Central Asia and Southeast Asia, Mr Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, received much attention for proposing the joint development of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. OBOR is currently China’s top national-level strategy.
