The first prize went to Yvonne Lim, 51 and Sim Poh Choo, 53, who baked an Orange Choco Clutch Bag Cake. The duo took home a Philips Viva Collection Digital Airfryer HD9238 worth $459 and $1,000 in cash.
“Their cake tasted the best, it was soft and moist. They win based on their overall presentation and taste,” said Chef Steven Ong, Chief Judge for the baking challenge, Assistant Director, Culinary Studies (Pastry & Baking) at SHATEC (The International Hotel & Tourism School – Singapore).
Yvonne Lim, a financial controller, said: "We had intensive practice before the baking challenge and we are really happy to have won as our efforts have paid off."
The second prize went to Sara Lee, 24 and Dorothy Tay, 56, who made a Banana Chocolate Cake. They took home a Philips Viva Collection Bread Maker HD9045 worth $309 and $500 in cash.
Third prize went to Wendy Chai, 37 and Grace Chai, 38, who made an Earl Grey Cake with Lemon Frosting. They took home a Philips Avance Collection Blender HR 2096 worth $169 and $300 in cash.
Apart from Chef Steven, the panel of judges included Chef Darren Olsen, Chief Baker of bakery In The Brickyard; Chef Koh Huan Ni, Chief Baker and Owner of bakery Neato; and Penelope Chan, Editor ofSimply Her.
Simply Her shortlisted the contestants based on their proposed recipes and photos of the cake they planned to bake.
Those in the audience had a chance to win a Philips Viva Collection Rice Cooker HD3060 by participating in a photo contest. They had to snap a photo of their favourite cake among the eight entries, and upload it on to their Instagram account with the hashtag #simplyherbakingchallenge on Saturday.
The event was held in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Food Expo exhibition from November 20-23 at Singapore Expo Hall 4.
