Singapore, 19 November 2015 - Into its 19th year, Female magazine’s annual flagship competition to discover new faces with star quality underwent a revamp this year and has concluded on a buzzworthy note. Previously known as 50 Gorgeous People, the event has been rebranded as Female GP: The Best Dressed Edition and now spotlights people who love and live fashion. Twenty finalists – 10 male and 10 female – were selected from nearly 1,000 entries that came in via Instagram, and the top winner from each category was announced at a lively party at Chijmes nightspot Rakes tonight.
About 300 guests attended the event that included a screening of the finalists’ video interviews, a showcase of their OOTDs (Outfit of the Day) on a Hashtag Cube wall, and an infectious pop and electro set by deejay Dave Does.
Among the stylish crowd were industry insiders, tastemakers from the local fashion and design scene, and the F-collective, Female’s network of creative collaborators that include MTV VJ Hanli Hoefer, model Nadia Rahmat, deejay/illustrator Amanda Ang, model/deejay Linda Hao and branding experts Charmaine Seah and Aarika Lee.
The top prize for Best Dressed Female went to Assistant Product Manager Chua Sihui, 27, while Visual Merchandiser Hong Yu Ran, 27, took home the title for the men. Both were selected by a panel of five judges comprising Female editor Noelle Loh; Donna Chua, group marketing director of Robinsons; Monica Tan, director of Kimage; Julyen Loo, trainer/lead artist at Nars Cosmetics; and Guan Min, artiste with fashion and beauty video network Icon Asia who is also part of the F-collective.
The results were based on the finalists’ OOTD posts on Instagram that were compiled over the period from Oct 6 to Nov 12 and tagged with the hashtag #femalegpfinals2015, an editorial spread from the Nov 2015 issue of Female in which they styled themselves and a video where they shared their views on fashion.
Noelle said: “Both winners stood out with their natural charisma and outgoing yet stylish approach to dressing up. They’re the perfect examples of people here in Singapore becoming increasingly – and genuinely – enthusiastic about fashion.”
The winners each went home with $2,000 worth of prizes from the sponsors and partners including gift cards from Robinsons and Nars, and vouchers from Adidas Originals, Kimage and Carat* London. They will also have the opportunity to be showcased in an editorial in an upcoming issue of Female.
