Singapore, 14 September 2015 – The Straits Times, English flagship newspaper of the Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH), Asia’s leading media company, won the Best Young Reader Program award at this year’s Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association (PANPA) Advertising and Marketing Awards 2015. The Straits Times Schools team, which produces weekly publications IN and Little Red Dot for secondary and primary schools respectively, launched a year-long service-learning campaign late 2014, to get young readers to document Singapore’s jubilee year and build up their understanding of civics using the news. Students picked up skills including doing research from newspaper articles and interviewing people to find out their needs – as journalists do – over a three-day event last year. These were reinforced through a special publication this year featuring inspiring young people and successful community projects.Excellence in newspaper media’s creative, sales and marketing teams from across Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and Southeast Asia has been recognised at the awards presentation held at Hilton Hotel in Sydney, Australia on Sep 10. Presented by The Newspaper Works annually, the PANPA Advertising and Marketing Awards attracted a record 450 entries this year.Issued by Singapore Press Holdings Ltd
