Back celebrates 20 years of digital excellence

Singapore, 14 August 2015 --, the online portal of Lianhe Zaobao, the Chinese flagship newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), culminated its 20th anniversary celebrations this year with a gala dinner on 14 August 2015 at Pan Pacific Hotel.

Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communications and Information, was the Guest of Honour at the event.

Distinguished guests at the dinner included Mr Chua Thian Poh, President, Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), Mr Thomas Chua Kee Seng, President of Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Professor Su Guaning, President Emeritus of Nanyang Technological University, academia, chief executives and business leaders of various enterprises.

A forum discussion was also held during the dinner. Titled “Internet Economy in Asia from Investor's Perspective”, it featured speakers Mr Zhang Xiang Dong, the founder of and SoftBank investment partner, and Ms Brenda Ng, former Vice President of China Bo Hai Bank.
  The discussion was moderated Editor Dr Zhou Zhao Cheng.

Mr Goh Sin Teck, Editor of Lianhe Zaobao, said: “The advent of the Internet has transformed Singapore and revolutionised the way traditional media works. Lianhe Zaobao is one good example as it morphed from a traditional print media into a multi-platform all media. But our core mission remains unchanged. We will continue to provide our readers with the most up-to-date, accurate and objective reports and analysis."

Dr Zhou Zhao Cheng, Editor, said: “Twenty years ago, was the pioneer Chinese language news website in the world. In today's context where internet has almost transformed the ways in which news and information are consumed and delivered, we will continue to achieve integration across all media platforms, utilising our strengths to become the main provider of information, news and opinions for our Chinese news consumers.”

The 20th Anniversary Dinner is a key event to commemorate the website which went "live" 20 years ago. The list of celebration activities this year included Internet literacy workshops for the elderly jointly organised with Nanyang Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, the launch of the inaugural International Chinese Media Interactive News Awards and a slew of online competitions to reward its readers. 

Celebrations also took place in China. A gala dinner and prize giving ceremony for the International Chinese Media Interactive News Awards was held in JW Marriott Hotel Beijing on 28 July with the attendance of over 170 guests. Prior to the gala dinner, a forum discussion, titled “Symbiosis:’s 20 Years in China” was held. An economic seminar entitled “One Belt, One Road and the Economic New Normal” was also held in Guangzhou on 31 July to engage readers in China.

The Seletar Mall, located in Sengkang, is SPH's latest retail development. This property is a potential asset to be injected into SPH REIT. SPH’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
