Singapore, 4 June 2015 --- The Singapore Book Fair 2015(新加坡书展)will be held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Exhibition Hall 401 - 402 from 3 to 9 June 2015

The annual event is officially opened by Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Communications and Information this morning.

Back for the 30th year, the Singapore Book Fair is organised by Singapore Press Holdings' Lianhe Zaobao 《联合早报》, Lianhe Wanbao 《联合晚报》and Shin Min Daily News 《新明日报》 and supported by Ministry of Education(新加坡教育部), National Library Board(国家图书馆管理局), National Book Development Council of Singapore (新加坡全国书籍发展理事会), Singapore Book Publishers Association (新加坡图书出版协会), ASEAN Book Publishers Association (亚细安图书出版协会), Singapore Chinese Publishers Association(新加坡华文出版协会), The Straits Times 《海峡时报》and My Paper《我报》.

In conjunction with the Singapore Book Fair, Lianhe Zaobao and the Singapore Memory Project team of the National Library Board are launching a new book “A Collection of Our Shared Memories”.  The book is a collection of comic works featured in an exhibition to commemorate Lianhe Zaobao's 90th anniversary in 2013.

Featuring more than 100 comic strips published in local Chinese newspapers from 1929 to 2015, the book also contains new content not seen in the exhibition. The comics, specially curated by newspaper editors, form a "history gallery" of Singapore, which is made more meaningful as we celebrate the nation's 50th anniversary this year.

A total of 72 copies of the comic book will be made available for loan at 24 public libraries (3 copies each), while 2 copies will be for reference at the Lee Kong Chien Reference Library from 4 June.

This year's Singapore Book Fair will showcase about 150 publishers across Asia. In addition, the fair offers a wide range of academic and professional books including e-learning, electronic books & multimedia publishing, educational materials, as well as teaching resources, supplementary materials, periodicals and enrichment programmes.

There will be seminars conducted by renowned local and foreign writers from China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and United States.  They will speak on a wide range of topics including lifestyle, teaching methods, learning skills, inspirational and fengshui. Some authors will also conduct book review discussions.

Another highlight of the fair is the Taiwanese Writers’ Talk Series (台湾作家讲座系列-“新台交响阅”) from 6 to 7 June.  The four Taiwanese acclaimed writers, namely Mr Fu Mi Jiang (敷米浆), Mr Wu Jo-Chuan (吴若权), Mr Si Yi (肆一) and Mr Ku Ling (苦苓) will share their passion on reading, writing and the world of literature.

The Book Swop, which encourages book lovers to exchange books with other avid readers, is back by popular demand. It is jointly organised by Red Pine Cultural Industries Management and Arts Inc Singapore, and supported by National Library Board and Beacon International College.

Appearing for the first time at the book fair this year is a cultural section called “Chinese Culture – The Hall of Experience” where various Chinese cultural activities will be showcased. Students get to experience studying in a Confucius Classroom, dressed in traditional Chinese costumes. There will be on-the-spot painting competition at the Merlion Creativity Zone, comics exhibition and photography exhibition(孔子书院、鱼尾狮创作区、漫画展、照片展)which is jointly organised by the three Chinese newspapers and SC International Creaculture Group Pte Ltd(新中国际文创集团).

These children are from self-help groups including the Chinese Development Assistance Council, Yayasan Mendaki, Sinda and the Singapore Eurasian Association.
