Singapore, November 30 2005 - ChildAid, the charity concert organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times, has raised over $300,000 for the two charities, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.
Thanks to strong corporate support and brisk public ticket sales, the two-night concert has exceeded the planned target of $300,000. (The full list of key sponsors can be found below.)
“We’re delighted at the response, especially from the corporate world who have rallied behind two worthwhile causes,” said Mr Peter Khoo, Vice President, Editorial Projects and Branding, Singapore Press Holdings. "While we have reached the target for the concert, the two charities still have some way to go before they have enough for their beneficiaries next year. We would like to thank all the supporters of ChildAid. And we promise the shows on Dec 7 and 8 will impress audiences with the range and quality of young talent in Singapore. "
Entertainment company Music & Movement is ChildAid’s creative consultant and they have helped put the show programme together. Its chief executive Lim Sek promised a showcase of youthful energy with something for everyone. He said, "When we were picking acts to be included in this show, the guiding principle was that they have to wow the audiences with their talents. It is not good enough to appeal with the “cute´ factor. They have to deliver with such panache and professionalism that audiences leaving the show will forget that all performers are under the age of 19."
ChildAid features award-winning talents such as classical pianist Abigail Sin, violinist Loh Jun Hong, jazz singer Nathan Hartono, harpist Lee Yun Chai, soprano Janani Sridhar, the Victoria Junior College choir, rock band 3dash1 and more. President SR Nathan is the Guest-of-Honour for the gala concert for corporate sponsors on Dec 7.
Sale of tickets for the Dec 8 performance, as of today, stands at 82%. Limited tickets for the show, priced at $25, $15 and $10, are still available through SISTIC.
Key ChildAid sponsors are:
Gold sponsors ($50,000 and above)
Silver sponsors ($30,000 to $49,999)
Bronze sponsors ($10,000 to $29,999)
