Singapore, 29 April 2015 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), Asia’s leading media company, tonight won seven awards for outstanding newspaper design, editorial content, photojournalism, newspaper marketing and community service at the Asian Media Awards 2015. The awards were presented at the Publish Asia Gala Dinner by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Straits Times, the English-language flagship daily of SPH and the most-read newspaper in Singapore, bagged three wins:

· Bronze for Best in Design (Newspaper Overall Design) for its treatment of news, incorporated with creative headlines, design style and use of photographs.

· Silver for Best in Photojournalism (Feature Photography) for a winning image of the new Sports Hub stadium taken by Desmond Lim.

Lianhe Zaobao, SPH’s Chinese flagship daily, also won a Silver for Best in Photojournalism (Sports Photography).  Its photographer Jonathan Yeap documented the training regimen of the women synchronised swimming team in Singapore.

The “See the Big Picture” campaign, one of the key events organised by SPH to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2014, won Gold for Best in Community Service.  SPH commissioned British artist and autistic savant Stephen Wiltshire to sketch the panoramic cityscape of Singapore in Paragon from memory after a short helicopter ride.  The event, supported by Germs Digital, attracted over 150,000 visitors in five days in July last year. The 4m X 1m Singapore panorama was presented to President Tony Tan Keng Yam last September, as SPH's gift to the nation for Singapore's 50th birthday this year. It is now on display at URA’s Singapore City Gallery.

Besides showcasing SPH's advertising and marketing reach and effectiveness, SPH invited special needs and underprivileged children to meet and interact with Mr Wiltshire, and gave merchandising rights of the artwork to Pathlight School to produce exclusive prints and unique gifts, with sales proceeds going to Autism Resource Centre in aid of people with autism.
