Over 600 women get fit with Shape’s fitness weekend

Singapore, 22 March 2015 – Shape magazine, Singapore’s only mind and body guide, hosted two high-energy activities over the weekend, drawing over 600 women participants.

Gleneagles Hospital & Shape Strength for Life Skipping Rope Charity Challenge

The weekend kicked off with the Gleneagles Hospital & Shape Strength for Life Skipping Rope Charity Challenge on Saturday, 21 March 2015 at Big Splash, East Coast Park. Co-organised by Shape and Gleneagles Hospital, the event was Singapore’s first all-women skipping rope charity challenge, which saw a turnout of over 250 women participants and a total of 109, 485 skips recorded.

For every five skips recorded during the event, Gleneagles Hospital committed S$1 from the Khazanah IHH Healthcare Fund to provide free cataract treatment for seniors under the care of Community Chest and its network of voluntary welfare organisations.

The top 100 contestants with the most number of skips recorded in five minutes each won a limited editor “GlenEgirl” Fitbit Flex activity tracker worth S$129. The Fitbit activity tracker keeps track of a person’s daily step count and Gleneagles Hospital has pledged to raise $0.01 for each step logged. Members of the public with Fitbit activity trackers are encouraged to log their daily step count with through their Fitbit app to contribute to the cause.

With S$30,000 raised at Saturday’s event alone, organisers hope to raise S$180,000 by 30 April. Since the launch of the Charity Challenge, users have logged more than two million steps, which translate to over S$22,000. The total amount raised will be used to find as many as 40 cataract procedures at Gleneagles Hospital.

This event is a corporate social responsibility initiative under the ‘Life Renewed Project’, supported by the Khazanah IHH Healthcare Fund.

Shape Fitness Fiesta

On Sunday morning, over 350 women gathered at Big Splash, East Coast Park for the third instalment of the Shape Fitness Fiesta, where they participated in an exciting workout session.

Led by Amore Fitness, the workout comprised 30 minutes of  Aero Lo (a basic low-impact aerobic workout), 30 minutes of Zumba (a high-energy dance workout to Latin and international beats), and 30 minutes of Stretch Fit (stretching exercises incorporating breathing techniques). Back for its third instalment, the Shape Fitness Fiesta was an exhilarating workout session which featured a combination of three different exercises.

Participants also enjoyed fringe activities such as games, a Miss Sunplay pageant, and a health talk by Dr Vivien Lim, a top endocrinologist from Gleneagles Hospital.

Diana Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “As Singapore’s leading fitness lifestyle magazine, Shape is proud to offer unique opportunities for women to exercise, and do something good for themselves and others. We are thrilled to have co-organised our first charity skipping event and to witness a great turnout at the Shape Fitness Fiesta, and will continue to cater to the growing community of active Singaporeans."
