The 9th edition of Singapore’s original all-women run features a new mother-and-child category, beauty queens jogging for charity, and four male celebrities among the race pacers.
Singapore, 14 August, 2014 – Shape Run 2014, organised by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines), will be held on Sunday, 17 August, at Nicoll Highway.
As the first all-women race in Singapore, Shape Run is a highly anticipated event with a strong following. A turnout of more than 9,000 is expected for its ninth edition. This year, in addition to the 5km and 10km races, the event introduces a new Me and Mini Me 1.8km Fun Run for mothers and their children aged 10 and below.
Shape Run 2014 will also be graced by four male celebrities: Joining the pacers are Fly Entertainment artistes Allan Wu, Andrew Lua, Bobby Tonelli and Jimmy Taenaka. Besides the celebrity quartet, 27 other pacers –10 females and 17 males– will encourage runners to achieve their target race time: 35min for 5km as well as 55min, 1hr, 1hr 10min and 1hr 20min for 10km. Andrew and Jimmy will be part of the 5km group (35min), while Allan and Bobby Allan will join the 10km groups at 1hr 10min and 1hr 20 min respectively.
Not to be outdone by the men, this year’s fastest pacers for the 10km race (55min) will be led by local female athlete Chen Zhilei. In the lead-up to the run, three training runs have been conducted – with Zhilei and company pacing close to 150 participants at each session.
Shape Run 2014 will be more than a sporting competition for 27 special racers. As part of a charity drive, 13 contestants from the Miss Singapore International Beauty Pageant 2014, along with 14 past pageant titleholders, will join the 5km race. Through their participation, the group aims to raise $10,000 for three beneficiaries including THK Home for Disabled @ Eunos, Singapore Women's Association and Lions Home For The Elders.
Li Yuling, Editor, Shape, SPH Magazines said: “From fresh routes to new categories and Finisher gifts, there is something to look forward to at every Shape Run. Personally, I am excited about this year’s 5km route around Kallang River – it would be a good change of scenery. I’m sure the mothers and children who signed up for the Me and Mini Me Fun Run are anticipating a fun time. Fans of Allan, Bobby, Andrew and Jimmy are also going to be extra motivated to keep their pace. In all, Shape Run 2014 promises to be a blast!”
Diana Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “Shape Run gets better every year, and we have our readers, sponsors and partners to thank for their support and feedback. We constantly build on our experience to improve the race format and introduce innovative ways to excite the runners and runners-to-be. As Singapore’s leading female fitness and health magazine, Shape is proud to provide this accessible sporting platform for women of all ages. The ninth edition of Shape Run will be one to remember.”
