Singapore Blog Awards 2014 open for voting

Singapore, 4 July 2014 –The seventh Singapore Blog Awards is now open for voting. From now till 31 July 2014, members of the public can vote for their favourite bloggers and/or celebrities from 140 finalists.

Winners for this year’s Judges’ Choice award categories (see Appendix A) will each walk away with a 5D4N trip to the beautiful islands of Cebu and Bohol (including airfare and accommodation) in The Philippines, as well as a trophy designed by Singapore cultural medallion winner Mr. Tan Swie Hian.

The Singapore Blog Awards also witnesses its first “MP versus Ministry” contest, with Singapore’s “Selfie Crush” Mr. Baey Yam Keng (@YamKeng) up against the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (@MCCYsg), vying for votes under the Favourite Twitter Influencer award in the Followers’ Choice category.

Strong competition is expected for the Followers’ Choice Favourite YouTube Channel award category, with influential names like international YouTube sensations Wong Fu Productions and Ryan Higa versus homegrown talents Tosh Rock, The Cosplay Chronicles and Dr Jiajia & BigBro. Other big names in this category include Wah!Banana and 2013 SBA Best V-log winner Ninja Girls.

Winners for the three Followers’ Choice categories will be determined entirely by public’s votes.

In the Judges’ Choice categories, interesting blog highlights include:

1. Best Topical Blog:Love durians? Lindsay Gasik and Rob Culclasure, who love the fruit so much that they have a blog called “Year of the Durian” dedicated to the King of fruits. Originally from Oregon, the couple has been traveling around Southeast Asia on a durian-tasting quest.

On the other hand, we have “SG Unfit Runners”, a blog managed by contributors who describe themselves as “a bunch of unfit Singaporeans in their 30s” who are “too fat, too thin, unfit for military service, injured with knees, ankles problems, busy with kids and probably drink and eat too much with too little exercise.”
2. Best New Blog:For its inaugural year, the “Best New Blog” award category is open to blogs that have been set up on or after 1 January 2013. The finalists in this category have been selected based on their potential for growth in terms of providing quality content to readers, regardless of nature of the blog content.

A notable finalist is “Mummy Wee: Parenting 6 kids without going mad or broke”, a family blog which details a mum’s challenges and quips about raising six children, the youngest being one year old and the oldest being 15 years old.

Another is “My Suit & Apron” cooking blog managed by Rocky Esguerra, a home cook with a full time day job who swaps her corporate suits for the comforts of her apron while whipping up culinary delights for the family.
Winners for the Singapore Blog Awards Judges’ Choice categories are determined by a combination of online voting (30%) and professional scoring (70%) by a panel of independent judges appointed by omy.sg

The theme for this year’s SBA is “Giddy Up”, and the award ceremony will be held on 16 August, with Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and information, and Ministry of Education as the Guest of Honour. The venue will be announced at a later date.

Voting for Judges’ Choice and Followers’ Choice categories is open from 4 July till 31 July 2014, while voting for Advertisers’ Choice categories are open from 7 July till 31 July 2014. Voters may cast one vote per category per day. For more information, visit
