Lianhe Wanbao to present a donation cheque for $33,000 to Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution
Singapore, 7 March 2013 – Lianhe Wanbao, an evening daily of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2013. “晚报真情30” or “Wanbao – 30 Years of Dedication” is the tagline for this special anniversary.
As part of the celebrations, Lianhe Wanbao will be organising a special anniversary charity event titled "晚报真情30爱心关怀日". The charity event will be held at the HDB Hub Atrium on Saturday, 9 March 2013 from 1.30pm to 6pm.
More than 300 invited guests and readers are expected at the event. Each reader had earlier won a pair of admission tickets to the event as well as a goodie-bag, by answering a simple question found in Lianhe Wanbao.
The highlight of the charity event is the popular Lianhe Wanbao CoffeeTalk segment, hosted by UFM 100.3 DJ Huang Wenhong. This special edition of CoffeeTalk, with its topic “高调行善，有何不可? ”, will see a panel of speakers debating on the attitudes towards high profile charity acts.
The panellists for this month's CoffeeTalk include Mr Chua Chim Kang, Editor of Lianhe Wanbao, and regular guest speaker Mr Samuel Ng, CEO of Marine Parade Family Service Centre.
Three other guest speakers will join Mr Chua and Mr Ng on the panel. The first is a distinguished overseas guest speaker from China, Mr Chen Guangbiao. Mr Chen is a famous billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist who is well-known for his high profile charity acts in Mainland China, Taiwan and USA. The other two guest speakers are Mr Anthony Png, Founder & Principal Vocal Instructor of Music Story and Ms Sim Sin Sin, CEO of Laksania.
At the event, Mr Chua will also present a donation cheque for $33,000 to Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution, the designated charity organisation for the month of February in Lianhe Wanbao’s charity drive campaign, “A Heart of Gold Starts with a Cent”.
There will be other programmes and activities before and after the CoffeeTalk, including a segment where Lianhe Wanbao journalists will share their experiences covering some of the most talked-about news that moved Singaporeans.
Members of the public can also do their part for charity by purchasing Lianhe Wanbao's limited edition "Fu Lu Shou" figurine sets at $288 for a set of five figurines or second-hand items from UFM 100.3 DJs and other celebrities. All proceeds will be donated to the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, the designated charity organisation for the month of March in Lianhe Wanbao’s charity drive campaign.
Mr Chua Chim Kang, Editor of Lianhe Wanbao, said: “As a newspaper that is close to the heart of the people, Lianhe Wanbao aims to impact the lives of our readers and make a difference to society. Through this event, we wish to generate greater interest in giving to charity. With Mr Chen Guangbiao joining us as a guest speaker, this special edition of CoffeeTalk promises to be the most engaging session yet.
"We started our charity drive at the beginning of the year to benefit three charity organisations, namely the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution, the Singapore Buddhist Lodge and Marine Parade Family Service Centre (Children Welfare Project). We hope that our readers will join us at this event and play an active role in improving the lives of the less fortunate by purchasing some of the items on sale generously donated by our DJs and other celebrities," added Mr Chua.
