The Amazing Waiter Race was fun filled finale to CATS Classified's Food Fest 2012

Singapore, 17 November 2012 – Spectators were treated to an impressive display of tenacity, skill and flair at The Amazing Waiter Race 2012 held at the Singapore Expo Hall 4 today. Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' CATS Classified in partnership with the Food & Beverages Managers’ Association of Singapore and Institute of Technical Education (ITE), The Amazing Waiter Race was the fun-filled finale of CATS Classified’s three-month long Food Fest 2012.

The race kicked off at 11am with an event that sent the excitement levels of both the contestants and spectators soaring – the Synchronised Mocktail Rush! Contestants from 27 teams put their speed, synchronisation skills and creativity to work, and concocted two tasty and inventive mocktails at top speed! The judges were impressed with the contestants’ level of creativity.

Eight teams then proceeded to the Wet ‘n’ Wild challenge at 2.15pm. The finalists, through many thrills and spills, had to serve beer as elegantly and carefully as they could by steering their way deftly through various obstacles in order to defeat the other seven teams.

Everyone did an amazing job but in the end, it was The Line, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, that proved to have the winning combination of strategy, speed and skill, winning for themselves $1,000 in cash per team, as well as the coveted Amazing Waiter Cup!

The champion team comprised Mr Lech Adriel Dimaano, 28, and Mr Lam Kah Chun, 22, who were delighted with their win.

Mr Dimaano said: “The mocktail was adapted from our rosemary cocktail, so we were pretty confident about the taste. We only trained for the synchronisation yesterday and this morning! As for Wet ‘n’ Wild, we knew we weren’t the fastest team so we made up for it in other aspects.”

Prudence and diligence also proved to be a winning formula for Republic Polytechnic, which snagged second place. The team, made up of Ms Guo Mei Ling and Ms Chen Zhijun, both 18, are hospitality students who were encouraged by their teachers to join the contest.

Ms Guo shared: “Our cranberry and lemon mocktail was perfected with guidance from our teachers. We spent about one week on obstacle training for Wet ‘n’ Wild in school. During the contest briefing, we found out that the amount of beer was the most important criteria, so we tried our best to maintain the quantity of the beer.”

Awards were also presented to the Top 10 Readers’ Choice Restaurants. They are (in no order of merit) – Boon Lay Raja Restaurant, Red Star Restaurant, Ubin Kitchen, Padang Palace Restaurant, Yan Palace Restaurant, Soup Guru, Bosses Restaurant, Good Chance Popiah, Shen Xi Lao Huo Tang and Hai Zhong Bao.

The day drew to a memorable close with Mr Kim Soo Nan, Head, Advertising & Promotions, CATS Classified, picking out the lucky grand draw winner of $10,000 in cash, which will be announced on 23 November.
