Singapore, November 10, 2012 – It was a night of gastronomic delights and warm hearts at the inaugural Asian Masters Charity Dinner as $280,000 was raised and donated to the Community Chest during the dinner, which was held at the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Centennial Singapore on November 9. More than 200 guests, including CEOs and other business leaders, celebrated the meeting of Singaporeans' love for food and love for the community.
Mr S Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs & Trade and Industry, was the Guest-of-Honour for the Charity Dinner.
Asian Masters, a gourmet festival that started on November 1 and will end on November 30, is organised by Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd (Sphere Exhibits), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) and proudly presented by American Express.
The Asian Masters Charity Dinner featured an exquisite five-course meal specially prepared by chefs from the renowned Les Amis group - Chef Kunio Aoki (Aoki), Chef Nguyen Quoc Nam (Annam Vietnamese Cuisine), Chef Ng Wei Han (Au Jardin), Chef Christophe Grilo (Canelé Pâtisserie Chocolaterie) and Chef Galvin Lim (Executive Chef of Les Amis Group).
Funds raised from the Asian Masters Charity Dinner will help charities under the auspices of Community Chest run various social service programmes.
To raise more funds for charity, a silent auction was held and diners could bid for, among other things, special editions of wines, an Annam Private Dining Experience and a weekend stay at the President Suite of the Conrad Centennial Singapore. Some of these were paired with artworks, including acrylic paintings on canvas, batik paintings and hand-crafted decorative plates by talented beneficiaries of APSN Centre for Adults and SCAS Goodwill, Rehabilitation and Occupational Workshop (GROW).
In addition, a 75cm by 107cm batik painting by Mr Ika Zahri Bin Sarkasi, the son of batik artist Mr Sarkasi Said, will be up for bids in a live auction.
The donation cheque was presented by Mr Chua Wee Phong, Chairman of Sphere Exhibits and received by Mr Ho Sing, Chairman of the Asian Masters Charity Dinner Organising Committee.
Mr Chua said: "Asian Masters is honoured to partner with Community Chest in organising the inaugural Asian Masters Charity Dinner as a way of showing our gratitude and giving back to society. We envision that the charity dinner will flourish into one of the main highlights in the future editions of Asian Masters.
"Special thanks goes to all our generous guests for supporting the dinner and opening their hearts and wallets to make this event a great success. I would also like to thank the Les Amis Group, Vinum Fine Wines and all other partners for helping to make a difference to the lives of the beneficiaries" he added.
Mr Ho said: "We are heartened to partner Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd to organise the inaugural Asian Masters Charity Dinner. It was a good opportunity for donors to enjoy a sumptuous meal prepared by top-notch chefs, as well as engage in charitable giving.
"Our beneficiaries were also given the chance to interact with the chefs at the canapé presentation. Every dollar raised will go towards helping people with disabilities," added Mr Ho, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Starhill REIT and a member of the Community Chest Committee.
