AsiaOne's education website wins international award

Singapore, 5 October 2012 - Edvantage.com.sg, a website under the AsiaOne umbrella, has won a silver award at the 2012 Annual W3 Awards.

This is the latest international accolade AsiaOne, Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) news and lifestyle portal has achieved. It won a Silver award in the "General Website Categories - Education" for the education website.

Edvantage is a one-stop education portal that features education news and views as well as school listings from Singapore and the region.

The awards, which is based in the US, received over 3,000 entries this year from top companies and agencies worldwide.

Judges selected Edvantage for its education-focused content which caters to students and adults, as well as its tools and information for educators and scholastic administrators.

The W3 Awards honours creative excellence on the web and recognises the creative and marketing professionals behind award-winning sites, videos and marketing programs. It is judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, a body of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, interactive, advertising and marketing firms.

It is one of the most prestigious and recognised creative award in the world, attracting international entries from as far as London, United Kingdom and New York, United States.

The top awards were won by organisations such as non-profit scientific and educational institution National Geographic Society, puzzle game Angry Birds and spirits manufacturer Bacardi.

Editor of AsiaOne, Mr Adrian Tay, said: "Winning an international award such as this is another feather in our cap. AsiaOne recognises our readers are professionals whose time is valuable. We want to make sure our website is easily navigable and simple to use so readers can find the news they want conveniently and quickly."

With this win, AsiaOne is once again recognised for providing a user experience which is unique and high in quality, further strengthening the website's position in the online news market and its appeal to advertisers.

Praising Edvantage for its content and usability were school administrators and lecturers.

Mr Mark Chan, a lecturer of sound design, media production and creative concepts at Republic Polytechnic, said: "Edvantage is the the best site to find out what the schools are up to as the information is current."

Mr Brendon Humphrey, marketing manager at the University of London, also gave favourable comments on the website. He said, "The course search function has helped us inform students of what we offer at our university."

Broadcasting

SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8 and U, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations UFM 100.3 in Mandarin, as well as Kiss 92 and HOT FM91.3 in English.

Events and Out-of-Home Advertising

SPH’s events subsidiary Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s leading Digital Out-of-Home advertising company.

Properties

SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Its latest retail development, The Clementi Mall, started business operations in 2011. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
