Singapore, 30 August 2012 - To commemorate a decade since its inception, this year's Most Inspiring Tamil Teachers (MITT) awards on Sept 1, 2012, will honour three outstanding senior teachers with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The trio were selected with the help of the Singapore Tamil Teachers’ Union which has actively supported the MITT awards through the years.
Said Tamil Murasu Editor J. Rajendran: "All of us owe a debt of gratitude to our Tamil teachers, and it is wonderful that we can honour some of them through these Lifetime awards. They may be retired, but they are certainly not forgotten.”
The Lifetime Awards will be an annual feature from now on.
To cast the net wider this year, former students and fellow teachers were allowed to nominate candidates for the main awards.
In the past, only current students and parents were able to nominate teachers for the awards. As a result, more than 300 nominations were received this year. Many nominations came from fellow teachers.
Tamil Murasu Chairman S Chandra Das will be the Guest-of-Honour at the awards ceremony.
There will be a special presentation by Dr Kumaran Rasappan who earlier this year became the first Singaporean Indian to conquer Mount Everest.
Lawyer and award winning actor Vadi will be the emcee.
