Inaugural jobs fair and fashion showcase by STJobs and STClassifieds a roaring success

Singapore, 30 July 2012 – STJobs Career & Development 2012 and STClassifieds Fashion & IT Showcase 2012, held at Suntec Singapore over the weekend, saw an overwhelming 40,000 job-seeking and 20,000 shopping crowd respectively.

STJobs Career & Development 2012

At Halls 403 and 404, the STJobs Career & Development 2012 featured close to 200 exhibitors from various industries, offering over 1,000 employment opportunities that range from fresh graduate to senior management levels.

The two-day event attracted a record-breaking number of visitors who were keen to seek out employment opportunities and free makeovers, photo shoots, psychometric tests, resume clinics, and seminars.

One of the visitors to the fair, Mr Kow Wei Hao, 25, said: "I saw the newspaper ads and decided to check out the exhibition. Unlike other job fairs, which are purely companies setting up booths to recruit potential employees, the STJobs' Career & Development Fair has several fringe activities to help job-seekers in their search for a job, which I find is a good incentive, especially for fresh graduates who may need some help in finding their first job."

Mr Shaun Ee, Human Resource Manager, McDonald's, added: "This exhibition has been a positive experience for both employers and job-seekers. We've had quality potential candidates ranging from graduates looking for management positions, and mature workers looking to be part of our restaurant crew. We find that there is a good mix of exhibitors here, and we like that the exhibitors are grouped according to the different industries they belong to. We will definitely come back another year, if given the chance."

Mr Johnson Goh, Vice President and Head of Online Classifieds, ST701, said: “This first show, put together by STJobs in just three months, definitely garnered a lot of positive feedback. We are gratified many Singaporeans like what we are doing. The pressure is on us to do even better in the months and years ahead. We will bust our guts to deliver or die trying!”

Those who have missed the fair can still log on to to search and apply for their ideal jobs.

STClassifieds Fashion & IT Showcase 2012

On the other hand, STClassifieds’ show at Hall 402 also featured over 40 established online retailers, up-and-coming local designers and popular blogshops with an assortment of activities, deals and promotions.

The fair garnered a lot of positive feedback amongst participating merchants and shoppers.

Ms Genacia Foo, 22, a visitor to the showcase, said: "It's a good idea to have such a showcase, where one can find blogshops and local designers under one roof. I'm a huge fan of online shopping, and this is like a shopping paradise for me. Instead of having to surf the different online shops, I can easily browse the clothes and accessories on display at the different booths. I like the concept, as I get to see the items for myself before purchasing them, and I also get to meet the blogshop owners."

"This event has been very successful, considering that this is only the first time STClassifieds has held such a show. We think that STClassifieds has set the standards very high. The event has given us more publicity and attracted more shoppers. We will definitely participate again, if there’s another gig next year," commented Ms Jolene Zhou, 22, and Ms Lucinda Zhou, 24, owners of online fashion merchant Ohvola.

Ms Shaf Amis'aabudin, 23, and Ms Daniela Monasterios Tan, 24, owners of local label Mash-Up, added: "We would definitely participate again as this event has proved to provide a great platform for us to showcase our designs, and at the same time introduce independent designers to the public. This event has definitely helped to create effective brand awareness for us."
