Singapore, 16 July 2012 – Nine portals by Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines), have been given a vote of confidence by marketers in a survey by trade magazine Marketing. They are ranked ranked among the top three portals across seven categories.
Three portals by SPH Magazines were voted the best sites in their respective categories. Claiming the top spot in the Men as well as the Women categories were Menshealth.com.sg and herworldPLUS.com respectively, while popular technology interactive and social site HardwareZone.com.sg won in the Tech category.
This year's win for HardwareZone.com.sg makes it the winner for the Tech category for two years consecutively. The content and community technology site refreshed its look across its Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines editions in December 2011, and has embarked on a strong growth strategy to reach out to a diverse community of technology-savvy users and people interested in gadget trends and reviews.
With its win in the Women category, herworldPLUS.com has proved that its revamp in November 2011 to reposition the site from herworld.com – a fashion and beauty lifestyle website based on Her World magazine – to the stand-alone women's lifestyle network herworldPLUS.com, has been well-received by marketers and agencies. The redesigned and re-positioned website covers stories beyond fashion, beauty and lifestyle with the addition of the "PLUS" sections covering weddings, home décor, parenting, recipes and lifestyle solutions based on SPH Magazines' other women's interest titles. herworldPLUS.com now covers all stages of a Singapore woman’s life.
Dominating the top spot in the Luxury category was Luxury-Insider.com, the flagship luxury website of WhiteWave Media Group (WWMG). WhiteWave Media Group, an associate company of SPH Magazines, owns and manages eight luxury magazines and websites including Luxury-Insider.com, InLuxe.cn and BACCARAT Magazine.
In the Business & Finance category, The Business Times’ website www.businesstimes.com.sg proved to be the top favourite among marketers.
AsiaOne (www.asiaone.com) and The Straits Times (www.straitstimes.com) were ranked second and third in the News Category respectively, while online property classified portal ST Property (www.stproperty.sg) and car magazine Torque’s website
(www.torque.com) took third place in the Property category and Car category respectively.
Mr Loh Yew Seng, CEO of SPH Magazines, said: "SPH Magazines' performance in the market survey signals that our foray into new media has been successful, and our new media portals have gained the confidence of marketing professionals. We will continue to improve the sites and bring greater value to our readers and advertisers."
Mr Alvin Tay, Editor of The Business Times, said: "We at BT are proud to have won the digital media of the year award for the business category. Digital is an intensely competitive space, and we're up against some very savvy players. We hope our philosophy of 'put the reader first' continues to serve us as well in the digital world as it does in print."
A total of 354 respondents participated in the survey. 75 per cent of client-advertiser respondents were manager-level decision makers and above with more than a third of them from the most senior ranks. Advertisers from major local and international banks, FMCG companies, property developers, IT and telecommunications firms, as well as travel and tourism companies participated in the survey. Agency professionals across the marketing services spectrum were also well represented.
