All slots for Shape Run 2012 snapped up

Singapore’s first all-women run meets popular response once again.

Singapore, May 9, 2012 - Shape Run 2012, organised by Shape Singapore, a publication of SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines), has filled all 8,500 spaces for its women-only event in less than a month after its registration was open to the public.

The run will be flagged off at 7am on Sunday, July 15, at Nicoll Highway. Participants in the 2.4km, 5km and 10km categories will be running along scenic routes around the city, including iconic landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer, F1 Pit Building, Kallang Riverside Park and the Benjamin Sheares Bridge.

Shape Run 2012 will introduce two exciting firsts – a 2.4km distance category and male pacers – the former to encourage beginners to get active, and the latter to challenge seasoned runners to beat their personal best.

Shape, Singapore's premier health, fitness and wellness magazine for women, started the inaugural Shape Run in 2006, sparking off a trend of women-only runs. This July marks the magazine’s eighth birthday, and the seventh anniversary of the run. Shape Run has grown from strength to strength, from 2,500 runners in its inaugural event to 8,500 this year.

The buzz is set to continue for Shape Run 2012, with weekly e-mails filled with training tips, event updates and exclusive promotions to be sent to all participants. Participants can also look forward to the Shape Run carnival, where the latest health, beauty and fitness products and services will be on show. Held from June 29 to July 1 at Marina Square Central Atrium Level 2, the carnival is also open to the public.

Li Yuling, Deputy Editor of Shape, said: "Shape has rallied women from all walks of life and fitness levels, and we’re thrilled to welcome both new and seasoned Shape runners to this year’s race. As always, Team Shape will do all we can to make the event a wonderful experience for all our runners."

Diana Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “Shape Singapore is proud to spearhead and advance the women’s running movement in Singapore, and we look forward to providing more fitness platforms and opportunities for women to pursue active and healthy lifestyles. Both our readers and business partners can certainly look forward to exciting new events in the months ahead.”

Shape Run 2012 is presented by Subaru and co-presented by Reebok, with Kellogg’s as the main sponsor. Other sponsors include Aibi, BIC Soleil, Citispa, Futuro, Jacob’s, H-TWO-O, Marigold Yoghurt, One-A-Day, Olympus, True Fitness and Vitagen Collagen. Shape Run 2012 is supported by Singapore Sports Council.
