SPH Appoints Two New Board Directors

Singapore, 30 March 2012 – Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH) has appointed Ms Tan Yen Yen and Mr Bahren Shaari as independent directors to its Board with effect from 1 April 2012. Ms Tan will be a member of the Remuneration Committee, while Mr Shaari will sit on the Audit Committee.

Ms Tan, 46, is Senior Vice President, Applications, responsible for Oracle's applications software business across Asia Pacific. She served as Chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation from 2009-2011 and was Deputy Chairperson on the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) Internet and Media Advisory Committee.

She is also a member of the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) board and Chairman of Singapore Science Centre.

Ms Tan holds a degree in Computer Science from National University of Singapore and an Executive MBA degree with Helsinki School of Economics Executive Education.

Ms Tan said: “I am excited at the opportunity to serve on SPH’s Board. I look forward to working with the Board as SPH continues to transform itself as a dynamic, multi-platform media company in this digital age.”

Mr. Shaari, 49, is Managing Director of Bank of Singapore, Head of South East Asia. He has more than 20 years of private banking experience in global financial institutions. Prior to joining Bank of Singapore, he was Managing Director of UBS AG Wealth Management where he headed the South East Asia and Australia Marketing team.

He is active in public service and was a board member of the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore for 11 years. In 2008, he was conferred the Public Service medal by the President of Singapore.

Mr. Shaari holds an Accountancy degree from National University of Singapore.

Mr Shaari said: “I am honoured to be part of the Singapore Press Holdings Board and I look forward to contributing to the growth of SPH in the coming years.”

Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of the SPH Board, said: “On behalf of the Board, I welcome Yen Yen and Bahren as new members. SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8 and U, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 in Chinese and 91.3FM in English.

Events and Out-of-Home Advertising
SPH’s events subsidiary Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s leading Digital Out-of-Home advertising company.

SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Its latest retail development, The Clementi Mall, started business operations in 2011. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
