Singapore Business Awards 2012 pays tribute to business excellence and leadership

Singapore, 20 March 2012 – Mr John Chuang Tiong Choon, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Petra Foods Limited, has been named Businessman of the Year 2011 (BOY) in this year’s Singapore Business Awards (SBA). Petra Foods is a major manufacturer and supplier of cocoa ingredients, and a regional player in branded consumer confectionery products.
 
The Singapore Business Awards (SBA), launched in 1985, and acknowledged as Singapore’s most prestigious business accolade, is now in its 27th year. The SBA is jointly organised by The Business Times, Singapore’s leading business daily; and DHL Express, the global market leader of the international express and logistics industry.
 
In addition to Businessman of the Year, the other awards in the SBA roll of honour are Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year, Outstanding Chief/Senior Executive (Overseas) of the Year and The Enterprise Award.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance and Minister for Manpower was the Guest-of-Honour at this evening's SBA 2012 presentation dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel. 
 
Mr Alvin Tay, Chairman of the SBA organising committee and Editor of The Business Times, said that this year’s winners exemplify vision, leadership and entrepreneurial drive. 
 
He said: “The Singapore Business Awards recognise the contributions of these business leaders to the Singapore economy.  We believe that the awards will help to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit and advance the standards of innovation and corporate management.  All four of our winners are deserving of their rewards for their accomplishments in their respective industries.”
