A new Lianhe Zaobao to wow readers
300 guests to get a sneak peek of the revamped Chinese daily at an exclusive trade preview
Singapore, 1 March 2012 – On 15 March 2012, readers of Lianhe Zaobao can look forward to a refreshed version of the flagship Chinese newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).
Today, 300 advertisers and guests from the trade were treated to an exclusive preview of the revamped Lianhe Zaobao at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. A team of editors and correspondents were present to introduce their newly revamped sections in engaging and entertaining ways to the audience, including singing and performing on instruments.
To celebrate the revamp, there were performances by popular homegrown singer Derrick Hoh (???), local xinyao singers Li Fei Hui (???), Pan Ying (??), and talented young flautist Rit Xu (???), as well as a specially concocted Zaobao cocktail - a bubbly white wine Rosemount O mixed with dragon fruit and lemon juice.

The newspaper, with its 89 year heritage, will continue to provide readers with insightful news and commentaries on all things Chinese, and leverage on its strengths such as its knowledge of the local Small-and-Medium Enterprise (SME) scene, an in-depth understanding of China as well as its grasp on lifestyle trends of Singaporeans.
Mr Robin Hu, SPH’s Senior Executive Vice-President for Chinese Newspapers and Newspaper Services Divisions, said: “Lianhe Zaobao will be 89 years old this year. As a national institution respected both at home and in Asia, we are committed to provide readers and advertisers alike the highest standard of service.”
Mr Goh Sin Teck, Editor of Lianhe Zaobao, said: “This round of revamp for Lianhe Zaobao is much more than a simple facelift. Since the last revamp, the rapid rise of the highly interactive new media has been the most significant change in the media landscape. We have to face up to this new competition and new challenge by putting the readers first. We seek to be closer to readers, closer to their daily lives. Their needs are paramount. We need to listen to and speak up for them. This is not to say that we have not been doing so. But more can be done."
With the revamp, Lianhe Zaobao is now refreshed to be a more appealing, engaging, directive and provocative read, just as its tagline "好看，好读，好用，好谈" states. Readers will enjoy pages with quality content, but now delivered with greater impact through the use of design, photos and infographics. There will also be more articles that capture the heartbeat of society and the everyday talking points of readers.
Lianhe Zaobao aims to engage readers beyond the page with the use of new media and social media. There will also be more activities that involve reader participation such as the "Character of the Year" earlier this year, which invited readers to vote for the Chinese character that was the most significant of 2011.
Events such as the Singapore Prestige Brand Award, Lianhe Zaobao LOHAS mega health seminars, investment and business forums are some examples of the various efforts that Lianhe Zaobao has made to engage the community. Last year, the editorial team also conducted the Zaobao Charity Drive to raise funds for elderly beneficiaries of the Lions Befrienders. Moving forward, readers can expect more of such community events to come their way.
Readers will still find their favourite sections in the newspaper, now branded clearly and even colour-coded for easy navigation. The sections are:

New look for zbNOW
The popular lifestyle section of Lianhe Zaobao, zbNOW (早报现在), will sport a new look and masthead. Besides the current topics that are close to readers’ hearts such as food, the arts, health and wellness, the new zbNOW will give readers even more useful stories on the art of parenting as well as career planning and development.

New look for zbWeekly (zbW)
zbWeekly (早报周刊) or zbW is a weekly supplement that accompanies Zaobao Sunday. The refreshed zbW, with a new look and masthead, will look more like a magazine and provide a more attractive and leisurely read on Sundays.
A regular column, 九问 (translated as “Nine Questions”), will let readers pose questions to their favourite personalities and celebrities. zbW will feature a different personality each week.
