Singapore, 21 December 2011 - SPH UnionWorks has been awarded the tender to operate a new FM radio station by the Media Development Authority (MDA). The new station, 92FM, will focus on women and family.
The award follows the call for tender made earlier in March this year. MDA had invited public tenders for two vacant FM frequencies, FM 89.3 and FM 92.0, to encourage a greater range of local radio programming. The tender to operate FM 92.0 went to SPH UnionWorks for its compelling proposal of a 24-hour free-to-air women and family radio station in English.
Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Chairman, SPH UnionWorks, said: “SPH UnionWorks is thrilled to have been awarded the licence to operate Singapore’s newest radio station. We believe that the new station will add vibrancy to the local radio industry with its unique programming.”
The new 92FM will provide in-depth women and family content, coupled with easy listening music. Women aged 25 and above, and families will find the channel informative and entertaining.
The station will see experts share their knowledge on topics such as Relationships and Family Matters, Health and Wellness issues, Financial Planning and Career Advancements. It will also cover Fashion and Beauty, Shopping, Entertainment, as well as offer listings of family friendly and community events.
Tapping on its collaboration with SPH Magazines, 92FM will offer listeners the latest information, the best fashion and beauty bargains in town, and more.
92FM is expected to be launched in the second half of 2012. With the new station, SPH UnionWorks is now the second largest radio broadcaster in Singapore. The number of local FM stations currently stands at 19, including the new station.
Goh Wee Wang, General Manager, SPH UnionWorks, said: “Our new station aims to be a breath of fresh air for working women and their families, and will be hitting Singapore’s airwaves in late 2012. Together with 91.3FM and Radio 100.3, 92FM is committed to delivering creative and quality content for both our listeners and advertisers.”
