Singapore, 25 July 2011 – The search for the new generation of innovations from Asia starts today. The team behind DEMO Asia will be travelling to selected cities in the region to seek out the best innovations to showcase at DEMO Asia 2011. These roadshows will short-list promising startups for the inaugural DEMO Asia in Singapore from 29 to 30 November 2011.
Started in the United States, DEMO is a conference that focuses on launching new technologies and products. Innovations launched at past DEMO events have since become well-known brands, including Adobe Acrobat, Skype Mobile and Sun Microsystems’ Java, among others.
Singapore is the second country in Asia to host a DEMO event after China. Sphere Exhibits will produce DEMO Asia with DEMO's existing co-producers - IDG Enterprise and strategic partner VentureBeat, a portal that reports the latest news, trends and developments on innovation and technology. With its preview launched in May 2011, DEMO Asia is positioned as the regional launch pad for emerging technologies and is also targeted at companies aiming to showcase their products in Asia.
The two-day event will feature conferences, pitches and networking sessions for a specially invited group of companies to launch their products for the first time to an audience made up of angel investors, venture capitalists, corporate developers and acquirers, government agencies, universities and research institutes. DEMO Asia offers both companies and entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain exposure for their innovations. They may submit their intent to register together with a presentation and executive summary of their innovations.
Starting in August, the DEMO Asia Innovation Tour will be brought to some of the fastest-rising economies in Asia including Bangalore (India), Beijing (China), Jakarta (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Taipei (Taiwan). Each roadshow will short-list ten applicants for a 30-minute private session where they will present to an audience comprising venture capitalists, investors and the media.
Successful applicants may wish to apply for the DEMO Asia Scholarship. This scholarship programme, which is subsidised by corporate sponsorships, ensures that deserving entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to introduce their innovations that might have gone undiscovered.
